AMD is essential for the further innovation of the CPU industry. I personally would never say goodbye forever to AMD. AMD recently announced that they have been working on a new CPU and we will probably see that by the end of the year. AMD has never been down for the count to me. They make a quality product that runs fantastic and at a great price point.

    Re: Goodbye Forever, AMD.

Guess I should have seen this topic expanding.

AMD's doing well in the GPU and mainstream CPU space. My point of the original post was that, barring HSA implementation being better than pure CPU power, AMD pulling out of the high performance CPU race is bad news for us. You know how Intel keeps raising the prices of their i5's by 10 dollars a year? Well, expect that to continue to be a thing now that AMD doesn't have anything for moderate to hardcore gamers.

I guess it's still all up in the air while HSA is the elephant in the room. We don't know how that sort of implementation is going to affect overall CPU performance. That is to say, if the combined on-die GPU with AMD's weak CPUs turns out to be better than Intel's IPC advantage, then AMD will take the new performance crown, even with cheaper chips.

Well you can now combine the power APU with a GPU plugged into the pci slot as long as it's AMD so that's one advantage. But I don't remember AMD pulling out of the performance CPU game. They just have a different approach. They have never said they were out of the game. AMD has a lot of things going for themselves. Intel has yet to be able to make a stable 8 core processor they are all 4 or 6 cores with the same amount of threads where as AMD has had stable 8 core processors for years and in some ways I prefer that and is better than making threaded CPUs.

They can have all the cores they want, but as long as the benchmarks show that they can't beat intel chips from 2-3 years ago those cores mean nothing.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

All I know is my next card will likely be Nvidia. Heck, my current card should've have been Nvidia.

I am going with AMD. The 290 looks pretty sweet.

...because looking back, I had less trouble with the one Nvidia card I've owned, than with the 2-3 ATi cards I've owned.

Funny how I have had a completely different experience. I had Intel q6600 back when that was hot shit and Nvidia and I am pretty sure it was just Intels crappy chipset back then but it was never stable. I always had something wrong with it. I switched to an all AMD system and boom it was probably the most stable computer I have ever had. Right now I am running Intel with AMD GPUs and its pretty stable but I have had a few hiccups here and there but I want to keep that trend of pretty stable so I think I like the sounds of AMD better and the R9 series doesn't skimp on performance either.
