I've been using Norton's for years. Haven't had any issues.

Yeah, it's what I'm using. I hear good things about Nod32 again. There are good free options, too, if money is a thing. Almost anything is better than MSE at this point with how poor it's been performing.

    For free stuff:
-Get something like the free version of Avast (research a little to figure out what's best)
-Get a good firewall (there are free options; if you can't find anything, Windows firewall will do)
-Have Spybot S&D and SuperAntiSpyware installed for cleaning out things the AV doesn't catch
-have CCleaner installed (better program manager than the Windows one, Registry cleaning---SAVE FIRST, easy cleaning up of junk)
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Bitdefender Antivirus Free. No ads or popups. Runs in the background and is extremely unobtrusive.

...and I don't see MS having a monopoly over the AV market now (or ever?) So the more I read his post, the more confused I am. My guess is..if they're telling people to switch, it's because they know it's insufficient.
