    Re: UPGRADE TIME!!!!

Nah. I'm happy with the card. I'm seeing the 980 beating the 780Ti marginally in benchmarks. Not worth my time to return this one for a tiny increase in speed. And I don't care much about power. If I did I wouldn't be running an "enthusiast" pc.

I wouldn't get one again, but I'm happy currently.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

That said, if they do a die shrink and come out with a 980Ti in 6 months.................... I might upgrade again.

    Runtime Error

I know it is out of stock, but seriously, what did you pay for the 780ti? It is cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, and is faster. You just got it. Don't be a stubborn buyer. Nobody will think different of you if you return it.

In 6 months, if they have a 980ti, then you would still have a card that you over-paid for based on it's performance. Trust me, I am the kind of overpaying for cards. If you truly want the 780ti, then keep it, but there is no real reason to keep it if you can get the 980 for less money and are still within the return window.

Evga will let me go to a 980 for free in the trade up program but I lose $200 of value in that trade. Not sure what to do. Heavy should weigh in on this.

    Re: UPGRADE TIME!!!!

How much out of pocket will you pay to upgrade? I have done the EVGA step ups before, and I thought it was worth it, but I was upgrading two cards from the GTX 460 to the GTX 570, and I had to pay about $150/card plus shipping to do the upgrades. It was worth it for me as the GTX 570 was a significant upgrade.

The GTX 980 is more of an upgrade because of the low power usage and overclocking potential. The card runs at 165w TDP compared to 250w on the 780ti, which is about a 34% reduction in power usage.

AnandTech | The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Review: Maxwell Mark 2

It looks like Maxwell is just more power efficient and doesn't require as many CUDA cores and texture units, but can still perform as well or better than the 780ti. I wouldn't worry about it if you have to pay out of your pocket to buy it as performance between the two is REALLY close, but in Kanati's case, it should be a no brainer as he will be paying LESS.

    Re: UPGRADE TIME!!!!

If I do the upgrade today I trade my 780ti for a stock 980 free. Just $12 for shipping.
According to the program I can do it for the next 38 days.

Not having to crack my case open again for another 6-12 months is worth something to me.

For $12, I would surely do it. Just be prepared to not have a GPU for a couple of weeks while you wait to get the replacement.
