    AMDs new CPUs

Does anyone else think that waiting a year for this will be to late? I mean come on AMD you used to be so cool.

Considering intel is going to beat them to market with 14nm dies I think it's once again too little, too late.

As much as I'd like to see AMD come back, I think they're too small to compete with Nvidia/Intel anymore. They're smaller and more efficient as a company now, but I can't see them outspending those two.

    Re: AMDs new CPUs

A for effort, and I'm really excited to see if this pushes them into more of a research/tech company rather than just a competition company, but the efficiency of their R&D and fab processes as a whole is to the point where they just can't compete with Intel in the Desktop market in terms of quality. AMD still makes some really great stuff, and there's absolutely a market for their products; but Intel is the company driving the technology forward and for that they will always be on top, and AMD gets left in second (unless AMD gets some serious investors behind pushing their research or a third player enters the game, neither of which are likely to happen). Not to mention that the Intel CPUs outperform their AMD counterparts with quite literally half the number of physical cores. Experimental architectures, advanced engineering design, and the money to take risks is how you stay on top, and unfortunately AMD doesn't have the size, the money, or the market-share to be a player in the tech research game to the extent that Intel can.

They'll still be around though, I don't think AMD is going anywhere. AMD still make great stuff and you don't have to be king to make tons of money. I'm eager to see what this "zen" design does for them.
