8 GB of RAM is enough. If you upgrade everything but your GPU to even the latest and greatest, you would get like maybe 10-15% more fps. Leaving everything the same and upgrading your GPU to a 1070 would probably double or triple your framerate (depending on what resolution you run at).

The most RAM intensive games I've played don't even use 4 GB.

What does one look for in a ssd does it replace the hard drive or work along side it the 500 gb + ones are really pricey do I need more then 250gb and what else do I need to look for ? And from pictures they look kinda on the small side do you just slide it in like a hard drive?

Most common is the use of the ssd as the boot drive and a mechanical drive for data like pictures, music, video and games (unless the game does a lot of lengthy level loading and you want that to be sped up).
As far as mounting they will mount in the same slots as a traditional mechanical drive but depending on your case they either screw into different mounting holes or some drives come with a tray to allow you to mount them into the same holes. A third option is buying a mounting tray also.

As to what to look for most SSD are very similar. If you are a hardcore "best of the best" type then your looking for every ounce of speed you can get. Then you look at stuff like the Samsung 850 Pro or similar.
Personally if this is your first foray into SSDs I would look at Sandisk and Crucial. They have nice 480gb drives as low as $100 to $200 and 240gb drives from $75 to $100. It just depends on the speed you want out of it and what brand you trust.

    Re: upgrade time

If your funds are limited to $400 I would skip the SSD and get a GTX 1070 [my recommendation].

If you do decide to add a SSD then you can get by without any issues with a 240+ GB SSD. That is what I have and I run Windows 8.1, Office 365, Battlefield 4, and Visual Studio 2012 on it.

You will need to be aware of the following concerning the SSD:

    1. They are 2.5" drives. You will need a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter to fit it into an existing hard disk bay OR get some double sided tape (the thick tape) and stick it to the case somewhere. That is what I did on my sons pc. I used the tape to mount it to the bottom of the DVD drive :>.
    2. You will need to use a SATA III (3) port to take full advantage of the performance boost you get from a SSD. You still get a boost on a SATA II (2) port, but it is like running on flat tires.
    3. You will want to use the SSD as your OS disk so you will need to re-format and re-install windows. You could just use it as a data drive and install you favorite game on it, but that defeats why you really get an SSD.

If you only have a single hard drive in your PC then I recommend that you BUY another one and do not re-use the existing one UNTIL you know for sure you have copied EVERYTHING off of it before you reformat it as a data disk. A 1TB HD is $40 these days,

GPU is best place to sink dollars if you are looking for a performance boost. Bigger SSD would be a nice bonus, but the GPU should be your #1 priority.

You have a nice CPU, man. You will probably be good for that for another year or so at least. Hell, I just built a rig with an i5 Devil's Canyon, and it is kicking some ass with a 1070. I'll post some pics of the performance results.
