Check out the rig I built a few months back. It is an I7-6700K and a $130 Micro ATX Z170 board. I opted for the Micro ATX to get a slightly smaller case. I only needed 2 additional PCIE slots for the Avermedia cards since I use this rig as a pass through for device capturing. Running a single GTX 1070 GPU. It looks pretty badass and runs any game I throw at it.
For benchmark results, here is the 3DMark Fire Strike score with no overclocking on the system:

Re: Need some advice on a build
Ok, changed a few things around based on the advice given and some more digging. Let me know if anything is incompatible or may cause problems. Want to keep the price around $2000, but there is a little wiggle room if needed.

Re: Need some advice on a build
Based on the info Heavy provided and the little bit of research I've done, the 6700k seems better price wise for gaming. The info I've found comparing the two doesn't seem to show much difference performance wise for gaming. Not sure I can justify spending $150 more on something that would only give me like 1-2 frames more on a game and no real other benefit for my use. If I am missing something, please, point me to it so I can learn more.
The 6800 on the previous list was from a custom computer shop site I use to piece together a start list. As I learn more about the parts (with your guys helps, which I really appreciate) I've been tweaking the list a bit.Last edited by loki2158; 11-05-16 at 09:46 PM.

If you want to save a bit more on the motherboard, and you're not going sli you might look into the MSI Z170A SLI Plus LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard - Newegg.com I have one and their claims of the first win 10 whql fully compatible don't seem to be far off, the stability and lack of issues has been very pleasant I have to admit

Re: Need some advice on a build
Heavy and I have two different views on that. I would much rather have the better chipset and faster memory (more lanes = faster) even if it's not going to give you more than a couple frames. The computer is doing other things while gaming... extra cores help there... if you do anything other than gaming, it could help there...
I have had the 2011 chipset for the last 4+ years and I wouldn't want to go back. But that's just me.
