    Shared Hosting Companies

I have 8 websites that I host and am currently with name.com. I am looking to change to a new company and am wanting suggestions.

The reason for the change is due to the slow load speeds of my sites even with caching enabled.

I realize I will get what I pay for and that is why I can not afford a dedicated box hence is why I am on a shared box.

    Who have you used?

godaddy is ok for web hosting, and dns records (according to some of my companie's customers), but they have a terrible email system associated with hosting services. And it seems like if you have a non-standard mail server/spam filter/web host setup they WILL screw up your DNS records once a year or so.

Personally i would use amazon: https://aws.amazon.com/websites/

    Re: Shared Hosting Companies

I have a few domains and small-scale projects hosted at DreamHost. I've been happy with their service. They handle both domain registration and hosting. I use their virutalized services, but they offer dedicated hardware if you want it.

None of what I do there is high-traffic or particularly stressful. They have a small set of (what they call) One Click Installs that make it easy to get up and running with a CMS, or a Wiki, or a Blog (they do WordPress, and something else). I'm sure they have a list on their site somewhere.

They have some interesting file and cloud services, but I don't use them and so I can't speak to it.

Beyond the click-and-go solutions, there are many more options if you're willing to handle the config yourself or are comfortable on the command line. On the occasions when I've needed customer support, it was prompt and competent.

My online business is hosted at Linode. In this case the environment demands a lot of bandwidth and stresses the system in many ways. Provisioning new resources is pretty straight-forward. Everything we do and run there is custom and built from scratch, so I can't speak to any of the hosting or cpanel-ish software they provide.

Linode's pricing structure is a little more fine-grained than some places.

Thanks for the info. I am still testing different ways to improve my sites but it doesn't look promising so I will look at the options you suggested.
