7600 vs 8600
OK,
I am thinking about upgrading my graphics card and I wanted to ask for some help.
I currently have the NVIDIA 7600GS 256MB DDR2 w/ passive heatsynch. I am running roughly 50 fps in CS:S on a 22" WS monitor.

Thinking about going with the 8600GTS 320MB. Am I going to get a big difference or should I wait and pay more for the 8800 640 MB?

Thanks,
Willderness

Re: 7600 vs 8600
I'd say stick with the 7600 or just buy a 7800. I can tell you right now, you'll never use the max potential of what the 7600 or 7800 and put forth. 50 fps in CS:S is fine, it's not going to change anything at all it goes up to 55 or 60 fps. You can always overclock. However if your really fixed on upgrading, then definitely go with the higher graphics card. If you have the money go with the 8800, but again you'll never use 75% of what that card can do.

Re: 7600 vs 8600
i had the 8800GTS 640mb but i upgraded to a 8800GTX superclocked 768mb. I recommend the 8800GTS 640 all day long. It's a great card. And your fps will shoot through the roof. You'll be fighting in over 100 + fps all day long in cs
You'll split your own wig with how much smoother cs runs online. It's like playing the game the way it was meant to be played.

The 320 version of the 8800gts is probably going to serve you well enough. <a href=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130082>880 GTS 320</a>
There is not a 320 mb version of the 8600, and it is hard to recommend that card.
If your looking for a nice upgrade on the cheap the 1950pro 256 for 125 or so would better your gameplay experience over both the 7600 AND the 8600.
I agree with Black though, you may just want to wait until you have a real need to upgrade and by then you hopefully will have saved up the cash to do a new system with a nice new card.

Re: 7600 vs 8600
no not really the main reason why it is worse is ether it was ran on a xp with out DX10 or it was ran on vista with DX10 so your kinda stuck both ways. O yah Ati has a nice duel grfx set up allot better than nividia's but there hardware lacks power they also have grate drivers. I personally would use an ati for multi media computer and possibly a home computer but thats about it.
