Re: Question!

Punk Buster will have no idea that you OC'ed your system. IT detects file changes within the game program. Unless you are doing a moster overclock dont expect huge results. Overclocking is not all it is cracked up to be unless you are going to get monter increases. When I OC my rig from 2.66 to 2.88 I get higher 3Dmark scores but that is about it. There may be a 2-3 FPS increase.

What is your system specs? How much RAM do you have. WHat kind of sound card are you dunning. Give us the skinny and we may can make some suggestions. OCing your rig will help a little but it is not going to save the day and may cost you your CPU if you dont know what you are doing.

    Re: Question!

You will most likly get a better responce if you post in the hardware forum. Should this just be moved?

    Re: Question!

You will get more attention if this is in the hardware section just as wildsrv said. The trick is that BF2 is a slightly different animal when it comes to improving your video and system performance. For faster load time the two best things you can do is to add that second gig of RAM and with a desk top install a X-Fi sound card. Not sure what the options are on a laptop. My prayers are with you regardless gaming on that.

I still just do not feel that OCing is the answer. OCing for me is something that should be done as a hobby to see how many 3Dmarks you can get. As for normal gaming I just don't think the benefit out weighs the issues. Maybe I suck at is but every system I have OCed was less stable and did not yield a big performance gain.

    Re: Question!

Actually a high speed HD will probably improve load times more than anything else - but just load times. More ram increases performance over all.

And Nuckle is right - OCing is probably not going to make a drastic difference in your performance, definitely not one where you can go from all medium to all high settings, and it wont change load times much at all.

Also being a laptop there is less air moving around and therefor a tighter limit on the amount of OCing your going to get.

    Re: Question!

okies...are you playing on a laptop or desktop? you say you play on a laptop, but keep talking like youre going to upgrade your parts with seemingly desktop parts. at least the last time i messed around with a laptop, youre pretty much stuck with whatever video chip it came with...theyre usually built into the motherboard. they only things youre really going to be able to upgrade/add are your memory and the harddrive, but as far as video cards are concerned youre sol.

just dont want you to go get a 500$ desktop video card thatsk about half the size of your laptop to find out you cant use it...

and as already addressed, heat and power are already a big concern with laptops as it is, and all overclocking (if its even reasonably possible to do on a laptop) will only make things run hotter in an environment thats already working/designed at it's peak heat dissipation.

    sooo, in a somewhat summary:

-if youre talking about a laptop, you are pretty much looking to be able to upgrade the memory and/or harddrive.

-if youre talking about a dektop, then its pretty much free reign, assuming you get compatible parts...so you would need to find out what kind of motherboard/chipset/cpu youre running and go from there.

    Re: Question!

wooh now, dont go buying anything from the ATI 2x00 line. Everything across the board from Nvidia is better once you get about the 1950 cards.

I have no idea what video cards will squeeze into a laptop, but I doubt the 8800s or the 2900s will fit.
