About to order parts for a new rig...check it out.

Ya so I'm about to order parts for a new rig at newegg.com tomorrow.

The Total is about $1500... here is the gist of it.

EVGA nforce 680i SLI board (1333 fsb)

EVGA 8800GTX (575 mhz standard clock. Not sure if i pay out more cash for one that OC or do it myself.... never oc'd before... wouldnt be goin for anything crazy)

Vista Home Premium
3 Gigs of Corsair Ram w/ EPP (for nforce sli boards). 2 x 1gig sticks and 2 x 512gig sticks. DDR2 800 Cas 4 latency. The reason I didnt go 4 gigs is that Vista 32bit (or any 32 bit os for that matter) can only address 4 gigs at one time. When you count the 768mb from video card and about 256mb from other devices it only leave ABOUT 3 gigs of physical memory to be left to be utililzed by the OS. 2gigs to 3gigs is the sweet spot for 32 bit OS's....

Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM 320gig HD.......Might get a 150 Raptor @ 10000rpm....kinda pricey tho. From what I understand the 10000rpm drive shows a good deal of increase in performance and I know I would never use 320gigs.... 150 gigs is more reasonable. I've heard the raptor can get kinda loud (but i dunno if i could hear it over the card) and i've heard that the raptor has some faling issues. let me know what u think.

E6750 Conroe @ 2.66ghz (this is the 1333 fsb new one) or E6850 Conroe at 3.0 Ghz (1333fsb)
I'm havin a hard time tryin to decide between the two.... the price difference is about $100 and if i got the cheaper one i could get the 150 raptor... I understand that the conroe is very overclockable and probably not unreasonable to get 3.0 ghz on the E6750 if i get cooling....or even stock

and a dvd rw drive

and a 750w SLI Ready Power supply forgot what brand but I know its a good one. I think 750 watts is the minimum for a sli setup. let me know what u think

Basically all my stuff is ready for SLI when/if i want to get it. I dont feel like spending a grand on two cards when one 8800 plays all games now at high rez. When things start to slow down i'll get another one when prices drop.

Aight folks let me know ur thoughts.

get the 100 cheaper CPU, the performance difference is not worth 100 dollers.

Go with the standard clocked graphics card. You can easily OC the cards to the same settings you would be paying the extra money for if you want, but honestly the stock gtx is fast enough for anything short of a 30 inch monitor and even then it only asks that you dial back from 16x aa / 16x af to something more reasonable like 8aa and 16 af...

Raptors are a bit loud, but if you get a decent case that should deal with most of the problem.

I have the antec p182 which does a pretty good job of keeping the noise of my raptor and 8800 in check.
Occasionally the graphics card fan will spin way up and I would notice it, but it that only happens when gaming hard and have my headset on. Otherwise for the most part, I dont even notice my system is on.

Not sure what your use to, but the E6750 Conroe @ 2.66ghz is plenty quick.. Just OC is yourself..

I bought the 8800GTX Super clocked. I've never oc'd before, and don't wanna deal with the headaches. I'd rather have it come like that and not screw up the card and void warranty. Or anything else i bought recently.
