So it happened....
My water pump on my Zalman reserator I stopped pumping.
Not really stopped.......just stopped generating decent flow.
They're rated to run for 3-5 years continuously, and I think mine made it almost to 4 years. Always on....that's pretty good huh?
I replaced it with a swifttech pump, hooked in series with a flow indicator (a very pretty plastic enclosure that has a fan inside of it being rotated by coolant flow).
On my old pump, I could see water/particulates in the water move by slowly, but not rotate the fan.
On my new pump, the fan rotates so quickly, it's hard to see the individual blades.
The swiftech pump is quiet....even as an external pump (the zalman one is internal...inside the radiator itself, constantly submerged, and a pain in the ass to replace myself).
I haven't even removed the internal zalman pump (just turned it off)....and it flows great. To remove it, I'll have to go digging around, drain the whole system, clamp it all off....make a mess.
But it's great for now. Dropped my system wide temps (CPU, NB, GPU, VRAM) by 3-5 deg C at idle.....who knows what my upper limits are now.
Also, the swiftech one works off my MOLEX PSU connections, meaning the pump is only on when my computer is on (which is only on when I'm using it). Don't know how the pump will like being turned on and off once a day.......or how the water will like sitting still for most of the day I'm at work.....or how the components will like that......
but it's cool.
big essay about nothing.....but it's cool.
