getting stop errors for BF2142 on my Vista Home Premium box.
Now I just checked my version of DX it says it is DX 10, on the diag. tool. I tried to update it the program said no need it is up to date.
But I am getting stop errors all the time now.
Should I delete DX and reinstall it? Can I delete it?

This is a Buffer Overrun error. If the memory accessed beyond the string is not allocated to the process, then a C0000005 exception (Access Violation) will result
I did some research on that error code in 2142. Most people that got it were able to fix it with a video driver update. Try that.Sleep, eat, conquer, meditate, repeat.

Is your video card 512mb or larger? You could be overrunning the 2gig ceiling, which can and does happen.
Try this vista memory hotfix

Yes, but at the same time it cannot. The 32 bit version of Vista still has a hard limit to the amount of memory an app can access - 2 gigs.
something that was set long ago and is now going to cause major issues as we are getting to the point where we are transitioning past the 2gig mark.
anandtech details and tests this out through a couple of articles:
http://www.anandtech.com/gadgets/showdoc.aspx?i=3034
An artifact of the design of 32bit processors and the 32bit API for Windows, the 2GB barrier is a cap on how much addressing space (related to but not equivalent to memory usage) a single application can use. This isn't a bug but rather the result of how hardware and software was created so many years ago, and while everyone has known this barrier will inevitably be hit, as we'll see there are several reasons why it can't simply be moved or bypassed. Meanwhile hitting it involves affected applications crashing for what can appear to be no good reason, and understanding why the 2GB barrier exists and what can be done will be important for resolving those crashes.

the problem is VISTA.
Better off unistalling it and re-installing XP.
VISTA contrary to some people/microsoft doesn't work well with most PC games.
I'd wait a few years before re-installing vista/wait until they have patched all the security/adminstrative loop-holes.

sorry, I did not see that he had posted his vidcards,
anyway, I thought that there was not an SLI driver for Vista?
Try running in single card mode.
Also, I believe that this is a vista issue that may be fixed by one of the "performance and compatibility" patches they have been releasing lately.Sleep, eat, conquer, meditate, repeat.
