WD Raptor worth it?

Case: Antec 900
PSU: FSP (forton source) 600w
CPU: FX-62 @ 3.1ghz <--- Thermal Right Ultra 120 with 2 120mm fans... Idle 29 Full load 37
Hard Drive: 320g Seagate <--- IDE
Soundcard: Creative X-Fi Xtremegamer
Video Card: EvGA 320mb 8800gts
Mobo: EvGa Am2 590 SLI
Memory: 2gig Corsair XMS
Keyboard: Saitek <--- love it
Mouse: Logitech G5 <--also love it
Headphones: 5.1 Razer barracudas Hp-1<-- i think thats what they are called

Ok that is my current setup and I what I have heard is that the WD Raptors cut down loading time on games... and even possibly increase fps.... a tad since it access files faster then normal...

Here are my questions.. Is it even worth it?... Will i see a big difference compared to my IDE Hard drive?... or will it just be like 5 secs faster... because to me that is not really a difference at all...

And If i do get one i will probably get the 150g version....

Re: WD Raptor worth it?

Any SATA drive will outperform an ATA drive; and those raptors are rumored to be pretty darn quick. I gotta say though, I went from a single SATA drive to a RAID0 stripe and my load times were WAY faster. I say buy two cheap SATA disks, run 'em in RAID0 and get a third disk to keep all your important stuff on.

I am using the same NVidia 590 chipset you have and the performance from single SATA to a RAID0 is enormous. My roomate is using a a similar configuration and its benchmarks were almost twice as fast as single SATA. Just remember that RAID0 also doubles your chance of data loss; one disk fails, both fail. So keep your important documents on a third disk.

I cant speak from experience with a raptor; but any SATA disk will outperform a regular ATA disk. You could just buy 2 80Gig SATA drives, put 'em in RAID0, and use the disk you already have to keep stuff safe on.

ATA = slow
SATA = better
SATA on RAID0 or RAID5 = much better
Raptor? I dunno.. they sure do cost a lot.. but that one model has a window!

I checked into it, If you have the money go for it.
If you looking at saving some money but get the almost and if you set it up right you can get the same performance from 3 maybe 4 Sata Seagate 7200.10 or 7200.11 HDs striped and raided. The beny for this is you get about a tig of HD space and the same performance out of it.
I have 2 of the 36gig Raptors now on my gaming comp, but it isn't as fast as these raided Seagates I am getting. They are older and do not have any cache on them too so that doesn't help them. don't get me wrong they are fast and I do have them raided too. But they do have a limit.
Also if you get the 7200.10/11 you need to remove the jumper or you will not get the 3.0 sata speed from it.

Your post made me curious so I jumped on the google and found this:

http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/03/...e-performance/

It's pretty informative... I am happy with my RAID0 stripe!

But the raptor does substantially outperform other SATA disks

Anyone else here own a dog?

We just got a 7 1/2 week old yellow Lab on Saturday and named her Lola. She's lovely but being a bit hyper at the moment (makes playing L4D a complete pain as I'm always talking down the mike to her).

Does anyone else on here have a dog, or care to share some puppy training tips?

P.S. will post photos if anyone wants to see them (though I'm aware this isn't LabradorFourms).

P.P.S. No jokes about Korgii

awww does it chase after loo paper yet?
Do you actually have training issues with it or you just asking for random input?
I tell you this book would be a good book to read through, nice and light so you can dip in and out and was really helpful to me 'Think Dog!: An Owner's Guide to Canine Psychology' by John Fisher.
My latest dawg is just about to turn 1. Is there any training classes near you or dog socializing classes?would recommend you look in to attending a couple just to get an idea really. Also look into Lab traits, I know as they get older they can suffer badly from joint inflamation and arthritis, dietry troubles etc.

Shall we have a cute puppy photo off?

I know Joe/Dan/Someone is going to make a joke about owning me...despite your warning.

I've been training dogs for years now actually. Back when I lived with my father I'd owned and trained about 5 dogs, 4 were puppies when training began. Right before I moved out I owned a Japanese Akita, AKC registered show trained, and a Great Dane, rescued from abuse. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. If I can't answer I'll pass it on to my friends Khai and Nat, who are professional dog trainers

I've got pics of the Akita and my Dane...if anyone wants them
OH! And I've just finished applying to adopt a Pit Bull in my area...he's a cutie!!
