    Limiting wireless traffic

I need some help with limiting wireless traffic on my router. My buddy (and roomate) is really into bearshare. That's all fine and dandy but the problem is we're both home at the same time. And he loves to download roughly 40 billion movies all at once... Whatever

Anyways, I've tried just about everything I can think of when it comes to configuring my router.

I have a Linksys WRT54G v5 router. Yes, version 5... so i can't just do the firmware flashes to gain extra QoS options... That's why I'm coming here. I need something, ANYTHING to limit the bandwidth of wireless users so that I can actually play CS without having a 500-600 ping.

ANY help at all would be greatly appreciated. Any advice, even if you think I've done it already, please feel free to offer it up.

    Re: Limiting wireless traffic

dd-wrt appears to have a little support for v5 models...

just not as straight forward as the "100% compatible" versions/models.

Unplug your roomate's antenna so his gain drops. The access point will slow down his bit rate, and you get to keep the change

I had dd-wrt running on a v5. You get a very limited "micro" distribution of dd-wrt, but it does support QoS and worked fine for me when I was using it.

    What server was that?

My buds and I played some campaign last week on a server that had some mods on it. We had laser sights, and could earn other stuff, like a raincoat that made you temporarily immune to boomer puke.

Is this a specific mod, or is it something that a server admin just tweaked?

Anyone know which server I am talking about?

    Thanks

    Was it similar to this?

    Obviously, not the same map...

Sounds like "SKC Clan" server: 208.167.246.58:27015
I'm not in SKC, but I just happen to have played there.

No no no no. It can be any server out there. All that server needs is a small little plugin that activates some code.

Deep inside the coding for L4D is some upgrades. The raincoat, knife, laser sights, faster reload, more dmg per shot, incendiary ammo, "smelling salts" and self pick-up are all natively in L4D. The plugin just gives convars on how to implement them.

In my own server I have a shop plugin that operates on points for doing good in-game. One of the menu options is to buy incendiary ammo for a set limit of time. The programmer of the plugin was smart enough to set a convar so the incendiary ammo doesn't flame up Tanks.

    EDIT: this is the plugin

    The list of Upgrades:
    Kevlar body armor (reduced dmg)
Raincoat (1 time, no Boomer bile effects)
Climbing Chalk (Self pickup from ledge)
    Second Wind (Self pickup)
Goggles, (When you get biled, your vision isn't blurred, doesn't stop the horde)
Hot Meal (Bumps your health to 150 as the new max)
Laser Sight (A lot of people say this is inaccurate, I say its the placebo effect)
    Combat Sling (Less recoil)
    Large Clip (Double clip size)
Hollow Point Ammo (More damage per shot, bodies disintegrate when killed with this)
Knife (1 time, saves yourself from a Hunter or Smoker ala knives from RE)
Smelling Salts (Faster Survivor pick up, like lightning fast)
Ointment (Increases run speed when you are injured instead of slow down)
Reloader (Faster reloading, very funny to use with autoshotgun as well as efficient)

^Plugin I use for incapped Survivors to crawl around, and Hunter/Smoker release of Survivor (only when the Survivor is incapped)
    http://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?p=856398
^What I use for incendiary ammo, don't know why it isn't in the Upgrades plugin above
