Figured out the cpu, need mobo options and assy. compound

hey guys n gals, so after the suggestions in the post i made earlier this week...i think i found sometin im comfy with buyin...but need some suggestions for a mobo...

    Core 2 Duo E6850

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115028

    Paired to the Abit-IN9

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813127020

if anyone has a better motherboard option? i've read almost ever review on newegg and all of them seem to have their own quirks and problems...some simply bios updates and others just shiity placement of jacks and outlets.

    Any suggestions?

also, whats a good assembly compound nowadays?

Here are some comparison reveiws of 8 motherboards with the P35 chipset. I purchased the Abit IP35-Pro because I wanted something that overclocked well and had all of the features I needed.

I have the E6850 CPU, and I cool it with an ASUS Silent Knight. Check out the pics from my build.

As for the compound, most good CPU coolers will come with some Arctic Silver 5 (or equivalent). If you are going to overclock, you will want a good aftermarket CPU cooler. Also some good memory. I am using OCZ Reaper, but Crucial Ballistix is good memory, if not better than the OCZ. The good thing about the Reaper is that it has an awesome heatsink attached so I can overclock the hell out of my memory and keep it cool.

Otherwise, you need to decide what type of video setup you want. Are you going to run Crossfire? SLI? What type of video card are you gonna drop in?

well for the time being, im just gonna drop in the ol ATI X1600 pro (pci-e), but i'll probably upgrade to an 8800gtx here sooner than later. im just going for raw game performance. Any computer can handle basic internet explorer tasks, and talking on yahoo. I just want sometin thats gonna load games incredibly fast compared to my P4, and will handle photoshop better.

I found this mobo, it's one of the few well reviewed ones I've seen. I know exactly what you mean that they all have quirks.
I hear gigabytes aren't as nice as Abit ans Asus's but the reviews speak highly.

Also there is a thread here you should check out. It talks about the 8800 GT which will be released in November

I've noticed this too and agree that there shouldn't be a whole new topic for every time there is a problem with the moderators, but it does seem that some threads are locked without explanation, so I would make the suggestion that when a moderator locks a thread, they leave a breif description of why the thread was locked.

Usually there is an explanation. If you look at previously locked threads, there are fully explained reasons. There have only been a few threads - the ones thought to be spam - that have been closed with no reason, or threads that have too much arguing in them.
But, like the new rule says, if you have a problem-message the staff member. Or, if you cant figure out who locked it, message any staff member and it will be sorted out. Im pretty sure that will be okay.

While there usually is a suggestion, these threads came to mind when I saw this thread.

I couldn't really figure out why either was locked. It wasn't so much that I cared whether or not the threads were locked, but it was just there wasn't an explanation.

I'm not trying to say you're bad moderators, because for the most part there is an explanation and there are many threads locked with good reason, those were just a couple complaints I had recently.

From this point on I will message if I need to add to this though.

Thanks for your help in making this thread as great as it is.

freedom of speech just changed to "shhh, don't say anything out loud, whisper it to me secretly"......

It's like disagreeing with Hitler. If you say anything against him they will kill you (a.k.a. :delete the thread or post)

I'm a moderator of many forums and I can't put a rule like this up on the forum. People have the right to criticize or disagree with a moderator and express his/her opinion in public forums.....

    ....that's just my opinion.
