Re: New Gaming Rig - Pros/Cons

Take it again I'm not worried about all the minor technical details. I could really care less about those 5-10fps I won't be getting. Right now I can run the Crysis demo on high with a FPS of about 25 with Dual 7800GTX's on high resolution. I don't think there will be much of a problem with the 8800 Ultras having any trouble with operating under those conditions.

What happened to the 8800 you just picked up?

Already have the graphic cards, just my system can't tolerate them quite yet so I need to upgrade. Still waiting on the 2nd one to come in. That's why I wanted everyones advice on the system parts I listed, see if they'd have any good or bad sides and if so I could change them since I haven't ordered any, but the cards so far.

Everything looks great. (IMO) I would just change the mobo and the processor, I have the 680i and a q6600, couldent be happier. Also why not look into some raptors?

    Three words; Intel Core 2.

And I fully agree, wait a short time, we should see new top end video card info mid november.

I fully approve of your monitor - but of course be warned your gonna need to upgrade vcards more often to keep up with it.

My twin 8800 GTX's are handling the beta just fine.

This is quoted for emphasis. I have the eVGA 680i mobo and a Q6800 2.93 quad core oc'd to 3.2, and it runs flawlessly. My last AMD experience left me .. wanting. So I switched back to Intel.

The rest of it looks okay.

As I said, I disagree with even what the benchmarks in that link may say. I'm in the Crysis beta, I run twin 8800 GTX video cards, and it runs perfectly. I'm not sure of my FPS - but it's very smooth.

Re: New Gaming Rig - Pros/Cons

Yeah, DX10 mode. If I can figure it out (I haven't done this before) I'll get fraps and let you know. I can also (again, once I figure it out) post a link to my 3D Mark 06 score. I scored a 14357 at default settings, 13916 at my monitor's resolution (1680x1050)

I could probably OC things a bit more, but everything is rock solid stable, so I don't want to mess with it. If I start messing with it, first thing I'll do is go to Vista 64 bit.

At any rate - I'll figure out Fraps and get in there again and let you know what I find out in a week or two. (Having surgery this week.)
