When you buy a computer, your paying for more than just the comp itself.

I know they charge a building fee and alienware does give you some software (that you can download for free off any website) and a shirt but $2000 is not worth what 2-3 hrs to build a computer if you take your time.

The only benefit i found to purchasing from alienware is buying unique or prerelease parts,

buying a midclass system is senseless, youll be ripped off tremendously. But if your looking to buy a top of the line pc, with parts that are not even released yet, alienware is the place to go.

meh, alienware is mid-bottom of the pack as a boutique builder these days. There are plenty of better companies out there if you want someone to assemble you a tip top of the line system...

If you dont want to build it yourself goto bd i cant remember what his cost is but i think its just parts plus %10. Still alot cheaper than buying from a company. Id bet it will run the same if not better.

Amen, Dell owns them now. I spec mine out on there then build it myself. I upgrade several parts from what they list (ie more HD storage) and its still couple grand cheaper.

Well.......,
Its not really a slight difference. The Alienware comp used the Penryn CPU (45nm) which really shows a performance boost over the QX6850 you picked, and the MB they are using has the x38 chipset, which again gives a good performance boost vs your chipset. I am not saying yours is bad, but there is a noticeable difference. Also you do not need nor would benefit from the DDR3 ram on your P35 MB, I would have recommended you just get the DDR2 @1066Mhz. Unless you wanted to get the memory now and upgrade your CPU later to the Penryn, but which still leaves the older chipset on your motherboard, again it is certainly NOT a bad board or chipset, but if you wanted to future proof your rig I would have just gotten an x38 chipset board now and a cheaper processor or if you didn't have a limit on funds; just have gotten the Intel QX9650 now.

As for the price comparison though, I would agree that it is not recommended to buy from any place if you can built it yourself.
