MOre questions..

I have recently upgraded my pc.... new mobo, new processor, bigger ram, and a bigger graphics card. In the 3dmark, i am still making low numbers and i dont know why. I OC the processor and ram and make a little higher number but nothing to write home about. Wondering what could be holding me back.

I also had installed 2x's 1gig ram pc6400 800 Mhz but it is showing in cpuz that they are running @ 400Mhz! I paid good money for these sticks and not getting the Mhz it says. The CL are suppost to run 4-4-4-12 but they are showing up as 5-5-5-15. WTF

Processor: intel Core 2 Duo E6850 @ 3.0 Mhz
Mainboard: Gigabyte Tech.
Chipset intel p35/g33/g31
Ram: 2x's 1 DDR2 gig crucial pc2-6400 800Mhz

Lemme know if you need more info.. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: my graphics card is: nvidia geforce gt 8600 512 MB PCIe

A. Your ram is DDR or "Double Data Rate" 400 mhz in the bios is what that ram should run at.

The timings could be due to several things, but they are probably just the defaults your mobo set for them. You can increase them to the 4 4 4 12 values, but that may require a bump up in the voltage for the ram.

As to why your geting lower numbers I would need more data

BUT the benchmarks mean nothing, how does it play? Is it allowing you more graphics options to be enabled with higher fps?

Re: MOre questions..

I am able to run all games everything high! 2142 i get 60 to 70 FPS in game with everything on high no problem. I recently got Crysis which is very resource hungry and i can run it on high with no problems. Same with Supreme Commander, again very resource hungry but run stable with everything on high.

I got a cd with functions to manipulate the OC and such in windows. When i open that program, it says my ram is at 799Mhz @ 1.9 volts which i think is right. This is the ram i have http://www.crucial.com/store/partspe...2KIT12864AA804
I have another gig comming in today of the same kind. Cant go any higher because win xp wont see it. might it be that with 2 sticks of 1 gig ram they are running 400Mhz a piece with 4-4-4-12 rather than 800 a piece?

Re: MOre questions..

Your ram is rated to run at 2.2 Volts. I am guessing it is clocking a little slower due to the 1.9 volts it is running at.

And yes 799mhz is not unusual, it is 1mhz low which is not a problem.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR2_SDRAM check this out for more info.

My advice is to leave it alone, going in an fiddling probably could gain you a percentage or two but thats probably it.

Re: MOre questions..

400MHz is correct. Remember that your memory runs at double data rate (hence the DDR), which means the resulting frequency is at 800MHz.

What score are you running in 3DMark06? That machine should easily be running between 10,000-11,000.

Re: MOre questions..

my benchmark for 3dmark is 3953! Can you believe that shit! What a bummer. It really bombs on the cpu tests. Even though i am pleased at how i can play anything with graphics on high, i am not happy about the rating.

I went ahead and bumped up the voltage on the ram from the bios to 2.2 because thats what the ram sticks are meant to be at.

It sounds like it might be an issue with 3dmark rather than the system's performance, because judging by how it plays crysis and supreme commander I'd say you're doing just fine. What resolution are you playing those games at?
