Thread: PLEASE HELP!! SF and BF2 will not work.

BF2 and SF are locking up on me. One of two things happens. I get on the server and click join. Then the screen of the battlefield shows up where i would normally click Caps Lock to pick a squad to join. Well, the whole damn game freezes up and it says the score is zero to zero and it won't respond to any keys other than escape. When I hit escape, it says menu loading and then freezes. That's it. It just sits there. So I Alt-Tab and end the program. Try again. Same thing. Alt-Tab, end, try again. Same thing.

The next time it gets to the select server screen and I click join server and it just locks up. Alt-Tab, end. This time I launch BF2 instead and then try to enter SF server through it. It reboots the program like it should, loads SF and joins the server. I click join server and it locks up again. Only responsive key is escape. Locked again.

This time I reboot my computer, launch SF again and try to get on. Same thing again. So I end program again, relaunch BF2 and try to get on the vanilla server. It locks up on the select sever screen when I click join sever.

What the hell is going on? I just played two nights ago and it worked fine. Please, I don't want to hear reinstall BF2. I just did that recently. There has to be some other explanation or fix.

Have you run any virus or registry scans inbetween now and when it was working, might be your problem. If not try a registry repair program if you've got one.

Possibly go back to an earlier restore point when you weren't having any problems.

Well, the system restore didn't work. I guess I'll run virus scan and see what happens.

I highly doubt a virus is your problem.

Is there anything in the event logs?
Are your punkbuster services running correctly? Is punkbuster up to date? (doubt its PB as well)
What happens when you update video/audio drivers?
Do you run any security suites? Any logs within there?

Post back dude, obviously my steps are played out but it is impossible to troubleshoot without sitting in front of the PC.

ok. it's doing the same damn thing again. i get on the server and it says the score is 0-0 and it just locks up. Last time this happened I just gave up on it and the next day it was fine.

What is up with the SF server? Last night on Warlord, round one we had no voip. Round two I couldn't spawn green, couldn't leave or create a squad, couldn't be commander, and people could hear me, I just couldn't hear them on voip. Nobody else was having these problems. I just reinstalled BF recently. Now this.

Should I buy L4D for 6,80€ (Steam offer) if I already own L4D2?
When yes, why?
Isnt L4D2 just a better version of L4D?

There are pluses and minuses for both games, but L4D1 is a MUST buy, if you havent owned it. You may not like it at first as you will be used to melee weapons having only played L4D2, but you soon get used to it, as it forces you to use better tactics and conserve bullets.

The No Mercy campaign alone is worth the money. The rooftop finale is the best of both games IMO.
