I wanted to add that, but I am not so mean... On that note though, its too bad you have to fudge BF2/2142 to make it work right with a 64 bit OS and more than 2Gb RAM... Curse EA/Dice! They make great games and never finish them!

Well, in fairness. the 64-bit OS support would take quite a bit of effort on their part to add the proper support. Windows XP 64-bit had only been out a few months when BF2 was released, and never really great driver support. Vista 64-bit came out a couple months after 2142, so in theory they could have prepared for this, but I'm guessing the effort was not probably worth the trouble to support an extremely small segment of the gaming population.

And with all things EA... once they have your money... support be damned.

Except Valve has added support for widescreen aspect ratio. DICE is on record as saying they will never support widescreen on the PC. (at least not back-porting to previously released titles. Who knows what happens with Battlefield 3, since it's based on the same engine as Battlefield: Bad Company which is slated for consoles... I would imagine it would have to support widescreen if it's going to be played on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
    wide screen doesn't mean wide-FOV.

In Source Engine you can adjust the FOV regardless of the monitor aspect... I think in TF2 there is a option, but in the older source games you needed a command line switch. (dont quote me, i havnt not played the pre-ob source games in quite awhile)

Changing the FOV can make the game look damn strange if you play with it.

Actually the fix is super simple, it involves changing a line code in source. You can do it yourself using cff explorer and telling it "application can handle >2GB of memory" and it does it for you. EA just doesnt want to bother because they want to sell you the new products. The only problem is bf2.exe and bf2142.exe edited in this manner occcasionally get punkbuster kicks for failure of md5 checksum. But the point is it is an incredibly simple fix; an amateur like me can do it.

That will add in support for more than 4 gigs of memory but that opens a whole other can of worms... Proper 64-bit support is a whole different ball of wax. I've never needed BF2 or 2142 to access more than 1.5 gigs of RAM so really... it's not an issue.

True it does not need more than 1.5ish in my experience, but if you have > 2 and a 64 bit OS it breaks regardless. It did for me and everyone I know personally with a similar configuration. Point is, it is an easy prgramming fix to prevent the negative memory address return and they refuse to do it. Gotta make the dough...

Lightbulb Resident Evil Outbreak "Hope 4 A Port"

Hello guys. A good handful of Resident Evil Outbreak fans have banded together and are starting a movement to get a port/sequel to the PS3/Xbox 360. For those who do not know what Resident Evil Outbreak is i'll explain briefly. Basically it was the first Resident Evil game to support full co-op game play and featured eight citizens from Raccoon City. You the player, and three others, got to witness the Resident Evil story, through the eyes of normal citizens. The game was way before its time and was technically a failure. However the game was plagued by poor and unfair reviews, no marketing, and the online world wasn't as popular as it is today. And, if you have never played Resident Evil Outbreak before and your a Left 4 Dead fan I'm 80% sure most you guys would be interested in this really fun survival horror game!

So far we have gathered a good amount of followers (500+) and are getting attention from Capcom employees. It has been 11 months and we have more than 10000+ posts and over 1.2 millions views discussing this amazing game in a single thread (Got it sticky as well)!!! Still, we need more supporters of this game to show Capcom their still is a serious fan base for this game. If those who are curious about Resident Evil Outbreak, search on youtube for videos, games sites for information, or you can even google it. All die hard Resident Evil Fans should join this thread and this movement we are trying to get going.Thank you and hope some of you check us out.

Check out the support Resident Evil Outbreak website below if you consider supporting the cause:

If you still don't know how to support check out this video, it maybe simple but it was made by one of the supporter:

Lend us a hand will ya? Together we will succeed! :cc:

*Note, if you got something mean or bad to say about this game, please keep it to yourself. I'm trying what it's best for one of my favorite game to be revive.*

Why is it that the best games came out when I was 13? Fucking assholes couldn't wait a few years to release this? Support.

Oh, and they probably won't make another one, seeing as it didn't catch on in the U.S. and (if I remember correctly) Japan. Coop Comms was too much of a hassle. I liked the idea that you had to stick together, but when you can't Voice Chat, and have to manually type while zombies are literally on top of you... yeah.

You might wanna look behind you.

    Thumbs down

There are plenty of games that received positive and negative reviews that came out even before RE: Outbreak. These featured online play, multiplayer, and co-op. Several mods for Counterstrike were also developed well before this that involved the co-op survival aspect and were relatively successful. TFC, in particular, was extremely successful.

Two of the biggest examples I can think of that came out before (or slightly after) RE: Outbreak:

The Matrix Online - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Final Fantasy XI - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TMO flopped hopelessly. FFXI just celebrated its...8th anniversary? I don't keep up anymore. FFXI had always been a single player game and never had any online compatibility. All of The Matrix games up to that point also followed the same pattern.

The fallacy is not within the fact that RE: Outbreak received negative reviews. The fallacy is that RE: Outbreak represents a minority genre in the gaming world that has only begun to expand in recent years. It does not have much to compare against considering Halo and L4D are about the only decent, true co-op multiplayer games out there at the moment (excusing the CS survival mod).

CC's best bet is to not create a port or sequel. The RE franchise has skyrocketed since 2002...especially with the help of the movie industry. Their best bet is to create an entirely new co-op game just like L4D.
Do a little more research that are actually facts related before you interpret nonsense into RE: Outbreak.
