Re: Preparing to build a PC - need YOUR help.

Bought it, running my old dell on it.

    It is really W-I-D-E .....

Running at 1680x1050 looks really sharp.
Running at 1280x1024 looks weird, stretched.

Going in to investigate supported resolutions in BF2.

This is all new to me, sorry to drag up noob questions and observations.

This monitor is the shizzle, and observed by trigger... my Elk Pizzle .

    Thanks again all.

The information in the following threads should help you setup BF2 for your widescreen.

The whole thread is pretty informative though.
    Good luck!

Re: Preparing to build a PC - need YOUR help.

Ah haaaa.... reminds me of when my mom told me as a child not to push in the cig lighter in the car because it got hot. I did it, the lighter turned orange, and I got burned. I knew what hot meant after that.

I went to Microcenter and couldn't find one decent any monitor with a native resolution of 1280x1024.

I am happy with this monitor, but can see that some games without wide screen have to be tweaked to run right. I was afraid that the higher resolutions may be difficult the run, (the dell is in the corner sweating and bleeding after 20 min of BF2 on 1680x1050) but the numbers on the new machine look like they can handle it with ease, we will see how Crysis handles it.

As games come along, one should hope that they support wide screen, because I found it difficult to find a non wide screen monitor.

Your new machine can run circles around BF2 at 1680x1050, Crysis probably not so much, but even tip top end systems have crysis crysis...

And not to worry, most games these days are coming out with widescreen support, soon it will be ubiquitous as even the cheap 400 dollar dells are shipping with widescreen monitors these days.

Re: Preparing to build a PC - need YOUR help.

I saw a gaming review mag where they spent $3,638 on a machine test machine. 3DMark06 score of 17,471.

Still only got 24.25 FPS on Crysis at 1,600x1,200. So I have realistic expectations.

I am reading up at widescreengamingforum trying to get a clue about what is what.

ah yea, widescreengamingforum is where its at.

Youll love widescreen. I switched over a couple years ago and cant even think about going back.

I do play 2142 in a normal 4/3 ratio - 1600x1200 on my 24 inch monitor and have gotten very use to shooting fatties without doing any of the extra crap - really depends on how well it looks too you, if its just stretched and fatter or if its stretched and distorted...

Yeah my roomate has a E6850 (the 3.0Ghz Core 2 Duo), an 8800 Ultra, and a RAID0 stack; serious performer. Yet he still gets chunky movement at 1680x1050 when running Crysis on "Very High" settings. Like Oblivion was when it came out, Crysis is meant for the computers that are not yet released.

1.) If I use the command line argument - "E:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +szx 1680 +szy 1050 +playerName SGT_Clintok +playerPassword <censored>..........this obviously disregards the resolution settings inside the game. Do the other settings still get applied? Such as AA and everything else?

If you want to play BF 2142 but not in widescreen, try this

    Shortcut target, set to "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024
    Replace the path as appropriate

Start the Nvidia control panel and under display, go to Flat panel scaling and set it to do not scale.

This will give you most of the top/bottom resolution and keep it in the supported 4/3 ratio without stretching it. I personally prefer this for BF 2142.

    Yes it should.

Have you learned how to jack your AA up to 16 yet? Your card can override the game settings and do it.
