Yeah this is just after running a burn in test with Sandra and running CPUMark. http://s217.photobucket.com/albums/c...t=Screenie.png I'm using a decent cooler (a must) and an Antec 900 which helps a lot.

Get the q6600 and a good cooler and OC it to 6850 speeds. I currently have an E6550 running at 3.0 @ 34 degrees under full load.
If anyone here can get their Q6600 to 3.8GHz, I would love to see it.

E6850 only runs at 3.0. The Q6600 can easily be clocked to that.

couple things here. it appears that you are running asus probe II. those temperature readings are off and im afraid it varies as to how far off they are. at idle it may be close to the true temp but at load, well it could be as much as 15C!!!! I recommend running speedfan or coretemp to get your true temps for each core. you could be amazed.

also, the Q6600 can overclock to about 3.4GHz(some will argue more but this isnt necessarily common). However, If you dont go with a P35 you might not even see 3.4GHz because many mobo's have trouble OC'ing the Q6600. for example, I hit a wall (and not a hole) at 2.95GHz on my mobo with my Q6600.

Now you mention that you can OC a Q6600 to stock timing for E6850 of 3GHz. So what? do you neglect to notice that the duo is OC'able as well? For example, HeavyG has his at 3.8+GHz and there aint no way you are getting your Q6600 up there.

I have heard about the temp readings being off on some software. I'll try SpeedFan and see what happens.

As far as the processor goes. Of course the E6850 can be OC'd also but I'd still take the two extra cores and a nice stable OC on the Q6600. I guess that's just my preference though. To each his own.

Nothing is wrong with it. It would be faster at the moment.

Assuming most things will eventually be written to utilize all four core, you will probably see a performance gain over the higher clocked dual core while using the quad.

    Quad or not to Quad

Re: Quad or not to Quad

i totally agree that the quad will eventually be better but as of now the dual scoreboards the quad on almost all games...for my needs, dual at 3.6 is better than a quad at 3.0. my next build will most definitely be a quad. hell, i bought a quad this time but exchanged it...i love the quad!

Re: Quad or not to Quad

I don't own a Quad Core at the moment either. Maybe in the future when it's more utilized. I was going to buy a Q6600 when I did my new build just to kinda futureproof my system but I couldn't pass up on this E6550 for $125.00 shipped. I figured at that price I could upgrade to a quad when it's more necessary.
