Need mic help...
Hey guys/gals,
You may have noticed that when I play BF2 I do not use a mic. I truly enjoy playing here, but I am trying to avoid being stuck with the (from my experience) crappy sound of a headset vs that of my current system.
Any help would be appreciated...
1. Can I use just a mic or will the background (game) noise interfere with my ability to use the mic?
and
2. If I can use just a mic, can anyone recommend a certain brand/model, and also the best way in which to setup the mic.
Thanks,
enumae-k

Enumae,
I moved your topic to the hardware forum so more techies can help you out. I would offer advice, but I use a $15 headset from Office Depot. I do know that you can use just a mic with your speakers/surround sound, and unless you have it balring you shouldn't have a problem with feedback.

This is the microphone I swear by at home, the Logitech USB desktop boom microphone: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836111601
It's a very reasonable price (half what it cost me a year or two ago!) for an excellent quality device.

YOu can get away with just using a boom mic but be warned - people WILL hear an echo of themselves coming through your speakers, it is nearly unavoidable and depending on the quality of your mic and the volume of your speakers it can be heard very clearly by people your speaking too.
If your looking for an excellent combination of sound quality and a mic look at these:
SENNHEISER PC166
The sound quality is superb and the mic quality high. Its not going to be quite as nice as your full 5.1 system, but it will be far better than you expect.
I have no problem going from my logitech 5.1 system to my Sennheisers.

Thanks Mcstrange,
I am curious, is it possible to use only the mic part of a headset so as to keep the mic close, but continue to use the 5.1? Would that eliminate the echo?
Thanks.

Yes, you could plug just the mic in and leave the headset unplugged - I have done this before - yes sound will still get through
And I am not saying you cannot use a separate mic - just warning you that sound will definitely bleed through to folks your talking with, and they will on occasion (due to normal delay) hear themselves echoed back - and pointing out a decent quality headset that is far from having crappy sound.
I have played with folks that use speakers and a mic and cant say its that much of an issue unless they hold down the mic and feedback everything I just said to them
