    Which processor?

Hey guys, which of the following do you think I should get for my next PC upgrade?

    Nvidia Q6600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115017
    Nvidia E6850
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115028
    Nvidia E8400
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037

Only interested in Nvidia stuff (personal reasons). If these three don't work, what would you recommend?

Wouldn't the E8400 be better? Plus it overclocks better than the E6850. Lower price.

    Just a question.

    Re: Which processor?

Thats a tough one.. the Q6600 will perform better for tommorows games but currently the E6850 outperforms the Q6600 on most of the games benched by tomsguide http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.html

Using the drop down boxes you can see performance comparisons between varying applications. Note that the E6850 outperforms the Q6600 at all the games except UT 2004. That being said however the Q6600 shows improved performance for multi threaded apps. Its up to you and what you want to do with it. For gaming I would probably lean E6850 because by the time we *need* 4 cores this chips will be dated anyway.

Assuming he wants to mess with overclocking, sure.

Are you interested enough to teach yourself to do it right or do you feel ready to do it now? There are significant risks associated with OCing, but done right you certainly can get more performance from cheaper components.

I personally just run stock because it works great already... But OCing is fun and a learning experience if you are unfamiliar with the deeper workings of a computer.

(not that I know anything about hardware but,)

I just bought a E8400 same stock speeds as the E6850 and 2mb more of cache for 30 dollars less...

    Re: Which processor?

The e8400 is faster than both chips. But you might want to wait until the next batch comes out... Alot of the 8400's have temperature diode problems and do not read temps right. It is a bad ass chip tho.
