Calling All Computer Geeks and Nerds!

Alright fellas, the time has come for me to build a new rig (inspired by Guch's Terminator 3 computer). I, myself, aint building it but will be learning from my buddy who does it for a living. Here are the stipulations.

    -Not getting a monitor
-Spending around $1000 (not much more either)
-Have speakers, but not out of the question
-Also, gimme some websites that are reliable and cheap. I'm looking at newegg right now

Please keep it organized if you post hardware, I'm not gonna waste my time filtering through info.

Alright, I've already erased half your budget, but you'll be getting a fairly decent system. Check it out, let me know how it is. I'm assuming you have a case, and a dual core compliant mobo, and a power supply.

... It may not show you the cart, so I'll list the parts

    Video Card:
EVGA 8600GTS (you can spring for the 8800GT if you wish)

    Processor:
    Conroe E6550 Dual Core processor

    HDD:
    Seagate Barracuda 250gb SATA

    RAM:
Patriot 2x2gb RAM, Dual Channel kit

Well first of all. For shits and Grins...

Here's my build around mid 2005:

Mobo/Vid card gets fried in a power outage mid 2007, so I replaced with this: and its still workin great. lol. err.. Time for an upgrade is more like it.

    Now on to the Response:

    Intel based - https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...Title=Beast+PC

    Amd Based - https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...itle=Future+PC

Replace parts (aka vid cards.. ehem.. 8800gts) where needed. If you don't like the RAID setup, you could take of one or two of the 10krpm drives.

Hopefully this link works, if not, the list is included. $830 bucks isnt bad. this rig will rock dude!

The Processor is new and is awesome, the ram is very good, the motherboard can be changed if you like. i just looked for a 1333 FSB because the wolfdale chip is 1333. So any similar mobo will do. you can save money by not going with an sli board. the power supply can be changed too but that one got good reviews and is cheap. 550W is plenty of power and you could even go less if you want. The sound card isnt too big of a deal to me so i just put the cheap one. i have it and works fine. you are on a budget so i think its more important to put the big chunks of money elsewhere. the video card is the bomb. since you are gaming you might as well have a great card and this fits the bill. the hdd is whatever so i just picked a 320gig. you can get the same hdd 500gig for a little bit more.
