GPU Overclocking

I have 2 7800 gtx's (sli'ed) primed for some overclocking, ive done a lil (4 hours worth) of reading on the net about it and in short:
your supposed to great a new registry key to enable another menu in the nvida control panel, then reboot.

Thats all fine and dandy, i even can see the menu in the new nvida control panel, when i click on it, it just opens up nviews monitor program... not even close to what its supposed to be doing; all the tutorials ive read refer to nvidas old control panel. Nviews user guide refers to using this link (in start bar with newer versions of nvid drivers) C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvcplui.exe /page:{FA7602F2-CC0D-4137-9831-D4606E9A2B52}

When i click on it, nvidas control panel just starts up and displays what ever page i had up before that.

Ive updated the drivers for both video cards and nview, still getting the same thing, rebooted so many times i lost count.

Anyone know whats going on?

Additionally Ive overclocked cpus before but never gpus and i was wondering if the benefits of oc'ing would be worth it for the cards? What risks am i running by overclocking them? Whats the safe amount i can overclock?

Get Rivatuner to overclock your cards with and then check for artifacts with ATI tool.. yes ati tool works with nvidia cards... Go 5 mhz at a time and check for artifacts.. when you start getting the arties back it down some.

Groove, how did you get your 8800GT's memmory overclocked so high? I can seem to only get mine up to 1033.

he probably has a better chip than you. just like a cpu. the better chips can clock higher.

Yeah some 8800GT''s have samsung memory and some have qiamonda or some shit .. The samsung will oc pretty good.. and the qiamonda will start to fail after 1000mhz which is 2000mhz effective ..

if you have your mem at 1033 that is really 2066mhz.
