Hm... I wouldn't buy a pre-built system, I know that they're pre-built, and can be trusted. However, VERY often, building your own system is MUCH better and cheaper than buying a pre-built, they have to jack up prices JUST because they're using a brand name. We can give you some advice in this forum.

If you want someone to build it for you check out a bigdog box. Same components for way less, or way better components for the same price as Alienware.

Give us a budget, and we'll suggest ALL sorts of parts. Also, check out BigDog Boxes if you can't create one yourself, BigDog will guide you through the computer building process, build your box, and then (I believe he does, correct me if I'm wrong) ships it to you directly. It's a pretty sweet deal too, he gets you the best stuff, but you choose everything.

DANG YOU CIVIL, you JUST beat me to the Bigdog box!

I figured you had the do-it-yourself route covered, so you were moving on, my bad.

Heh, it's ok Civil, I'm not angry at you or anything. I just thought that I needed to post a bit more, I wasn't being perfectly specific, like I should have been.

plus going through the process of building or having BD build it for you will teach you some things. if your not interested in PC's then just have BD do it. Like the others said, you will be maximizing your wallet by doing this versus buying prebuilt.

Dont buy Alienware. Sure it's high quality and has a warranty but you are paying a huge markup on the build. Have the community help you spec out a system and then get Big to build it for you for only 10% of the parts cost; that is a great deal. Or build it yourself and learn even more.

Alienware is great, but you can save a bundle by getting a bigdog box or building your own.

Then the question remains: how much is it you want to spend on a computer?

With computers....it's all the same...except when you build your own, you dont get tech support..otherwise, you will buying all the same parts and pieces off the net as would be in a prebuilt system. If you have someone who knows what they are doing, have them help you build it yourself. If not, bigdog has gotten stellar reviews about his professionalism and computer building skills.

He charges a 10% fee for building it and installing the proper components, but even after the fee you're still coming out waaaaay ahead of what you would have paid for a prebuilt system...especially alienware.

If you're not comfortable building your own rig then get a 'Bigdog Box'. Check the stickies in the ' PC Hardware and Technology' forum and you'll find it there. You get a top-speced computer for waaaaaaay less than from Alienware. Trust me on this. Trigger.
