8800 GT SC vs 9600 GT SSC?

OK,

Time to upgrade from the old 7600GS and I am having trouble deciding between these two. ANy thought from someone that knows what they are talking about? Is the 8800 worth the extra $40 for the extra 50 stream processors?

Also you get what you pay for so I would go with the 50 extra stream processors if you want that AA8x AF16x action.

Honestly I am looking at playing TF2 pretty much exclusively. My 7600 GS is starting to slow down when I am in intense battles. and I want to stay under $250. I have a feeling that the 9800 will be $400 or more and take another 6 months.

You linked the same card, I think you mean this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130328

For 180$ that card is an outstanding value. Its not quite as fast as the 8800GT, but its close enough.
You wont go wrong running the 9600

Changed the link to this one...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130330

Is the SSC worth the extra $30? It does take the core clock from 675 to 750 and the memory from 1800 to 1950...

Meh... You can do that yourself with the Nvidia ntune software and save yourself the money. Your getting real close tot he price of the 8800 GT, which is a stronger card:

I would say go with the 9600 for 180, but if thats not enough juice then step it all the way up the the 8800gt

Re: 8800 ST SC vs 9600 GT SSC?

The 8800 GT will outperform the 9600. But, the 9600 will perform just fine for all of todays games. Also, the 9600 is DX10.1 compliant for whenever the hell DX 10.1 stuff actually comes out.

So really it's a cost issue. I personally would try to spring a little more for the 8800 GT, but if you are on a budget the 9600 will do better than nicely.

TF2?
What does it say when you change your graphics in game what logo appears?
You want killer image quality in TF2 no one can deny ATI is the first choice.
