    RAM install

Well this probably goes down to being a very novice question, but I need to ask it anyhow. I currently have 1 GB of RAM in my computer and I believe 512 are sitting in slots 1 and 3. I just purchased 2GB (1GB each- by Crucial) of RAM today. I wasn't planning on using the current RAM installed, but read somewhere that is ok. Current RAM came with computer and is from different manufacturer than Crucial. Is it ok to install RAM from different manufacturers? If so, do I install the 1GB sticks in 1 and 3 and move the 512 to 2 and 4, or does it not matter and leave the 512's where they are currently installed? I wasn't planning on originally have 3GB of memory and was ok with 2GB. Please help. Thanks.

also you cannot not run dual channel with 3 sticks so it does not matter what slots you pick

Easy there, Jason, there's no need for that. Your point about running with an odd number of memory was correct, but McStrange was also correct, Badprimer1 has four sticks, so he doesn't have to worry about that.

Sounds like he has 2 512 sticks in 1 and 3 right now. And he just bought 2 more 1 GB sticks. That's 4 sticks for a total of 3GB of RAM. Sounds okay to me.

Of course you can run odd number of sticks any day of the week.

    BUT
if you want to run dual channel ram its not going to run that way it will run single.

    comprende?
I understand that, but that's not what you said at all. But this is irrelevant and not helping the subject, so let's get back to topic.
