How much $$ is too much?
Well since this lil "War of teh 3DMARK!" erupted, it got me to thinking that i should start and build me a whole new comp. But im getting what i like, and of course it costs a preety penny. There may be ways to go around it but sometimes look and feel is the right way to go. So i just decided to ask yall if im just crazy to spend on what i have planned to get or if there is no biggy... this is what i'm getting:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
COOLER MASTER Stacker 830 Silver Computer Case
EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0
ABS Tagan 800W Power Supply
CORSAIR Dominator 4GB(2 x 2GB) DDR2 SDRAM
2 Western Digital Raptor 74GB HD
SAMSUNG 226BW Black 22" 2 ms (GTG) Widescreen LCD Monitor
Subtotal: $2,483.80
I was going to go with 2 EVGA GeForce 9600 GT's but i just read that the 9800's are going to come out around Christmas... so ima gonna wait on dem and just get me 1 8800 for now. And im still looking for a good heatsink, nothing has impressed me so far so if i can get some help on that it would be great. FYI im just getting into this crazy computer building shit... and im likeing it... so any help i can get just hollar.

That all looks killer... the Q6700 is a beast! ... Ditch the 4 x1 gb ram sticks and get 2x 2gb sticks instead.. And I would go with some G Skill HZ's or Crucial Ballistix. Or get the 1200 mhz Transcend if you want to go all out.
And for a cooler you can not go wrong with the Thermal Take Big Typhoon

omg kinx you bought the Q67?? Eesh man just a waste cuz you can overclock like a md mad with your motherboard....i honestly would reccomend ride you your 7 day return period on the chip and get the Q6600....they are the same chip...Intel just OC'd the Q67 in a sense....is it really worth 300dollars for 260mhz more Just my thought,......killer set up man....you suck!!!!!! 3dmark score!!!!!!!!!! WHERE IS IT?

Re: How much $$ is too much?
Fast HD is cool but the raptor is not worth it.
Everything looks good what res are you going to be playing at?
Also if you are going all out and want the best OC board for SLI/Nvidia go with
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131255
ASUS Striker II Formula LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX
Get two GPU's so you can challenge my score 8)
Syrringe is right just go with the Q6600 for now and overclock it to Q6700 speeds. Then in about 6-8 month buy the QX when they come down in price.

Re: How much $$ is too much?
there mcstrange just saved you like $50. either way's i really wouldn't get the 10,000 rpm hard drive for $150. you could get a 7,200 rpm hd for hundred bucks less than the 74 gig raptor.
also why in god's name would you spend $250 on a case for kinx, thats just throwing away money. I am sure you could get a very good case for $100 bucks. its not all about the case, if you are going to seriously oc, then the fans and or liquid cooling is the important stuff.
and finally why are you spending $550 on a damn processor. if you really want to oc do what syrringe said or get a nice processor like the Intel Core 2 Duo 6850. I am sure you could really oc the crap out of that thing.
honestly it feels like you are just being wasteful and throwing money away. if you have money to just waste go right ahead, if not try to get your priorities straight, like the purpose of this pc, PLEASE DON'T SAY HIGH 3D MARK SCORE. don't be like jason, selling his car to build a bad ass pc. :8
