    Vid card or MoBo issue

    Ok I have a problem...

I just got my new computer today, and spent all day moving all my shit from the old comp to this one. So I decided I'd stop for the night and play some CS:S. I then realized I didn't have my Vid card installed yet. I get out my book, follow the directions, plug in the card, and start my comp back up. It comes on and sits. I got nothing, the lights on the keyboard aren't even lighting up. So I restarted a few times, and still nothing. I took out my card, and booted back up. This time it works. I don't know what the hells going on anymore. So I need some help.

    I got a ASUS M2A-VM, and a x550 ATI card (Yea I know, don't say anything).

Not a big problem, How about, is there power to it? Some cards require power directly to the card.

Is it a plug an play? Meaning you simply put it in the PCI slot an it runs, if so. Did you put power into that side of the board?

Does it have on board graphics? If so, you might need to go in "Device Manager" and Disable them.

One problem I had once was switching my hd from one mobo to another. Mobo's dont like different BIOS's so sometimes it's better to completely reformat. Hope this helps.

Wow "Hi everyone I'm a moron!!!!""

I was looking at my box at the plug-n-play options, and looked at the system specs.

"CPU running at 2.4Ghz or higher"

I'm running at 2.0 at the moment. I'm thinking it's time to look into overclocking.

Now that I know just about nothing about.

that sounds a bit weird, what does a cpu have to do with a gpu. I know ppl who have bottlenecked pc's cause they're cpu isnt anywhere up to par with their cards and vica versa.

Ok, I plugged it back in, and noticed the fan was running, when I turned on my comp, idk if that helps, but to me it looks as if its "working" or at least trying to.

I'm pretty sure is is. How do you check the power thing? I guess if the fans running though it must be.

Yes it does, and I had turned that off.

I read about people having the wrong BIOS, or something like that. They had a "400"-or something and needed to upgrade to the "600"-something. You think I need to change it? How do I check which I have?

the onboard graphics might be a bios setting, if so just disable it there.
nevermind, looks like you figured it out.

Ok I went into my BOIS last night and changed my primary Video device from the PCIEx to the on-board card. I can put the card in now and it runs, but once I disable my on-board card and switch to the PCIEx it idles again.

    SALVATION

im afraid if you try to oc your chip it might not work out...sounds out dated, and your mobo doesnt look to OC friendly.

I looked up your board and it supports socket AM2...that chip i linked ya is the best out there for under $100.

I think it'd be a wise decision to just get a new cpu and be guarantied it will work. Well worth $88

Re: Vid card or MoBo issue

Na, a new chip wont solve it. Im betting it has nothing to do with the chip

You said you disabled the pci-e slot, when infanct your card in running off of that. So turn that back on.

What I mean was load windows ( while using onboard graphics hence so you get picture)

go to Start menu/control panel/performance maintence/system/hardware/device manager and look around. You'll see a network adapter ( thats your physical graphics card) make sure its enabled. Then look for the on board graphics I think it'll be in 'system devices' an look for onboard graphics or 'intergrated'. Make sure that is disabled.

Some cards required direct power from the power supply to the card. Its nomrally a 6 pin plug.

Also what I meant about BIO's is one brand doesnt like another most of the time.

So if you go from say gigabyte mobo, with gigabye drivers installed an try to swap your stuff to a asus mobo it's not going to be fully functional.

If none of the stuff above works, I'd try reformatting first. Again I cant see how the CPU relates to not getting a picture with your graphics card.

Make sure you completely troubleshoot everything before you go off buying new parts, dont be like me. I would by parts because i thought the old were the problem an it turned out that most of the time it wasn't and now I have 3 of everything.
