Re: Need IT Help
raid0 is nothing more than striping. it uses all drives as a single drive, using all space, with no redundancy. if any drive in the array fails, the entire set fails. it's only use is if you want lots of space, and don't give a damn about the data stored on it.
as cheap as hard drives are now, i'd use raid1 when possible. i just saw an ad from mwave.com showing a WD 1TB SATA hard drive with 16MB cache, for ~$235. that's only if you need that much space. i've got a WD 500MB SATA w/8MB cache that i picked up for $100 they are cheap now.
depending on the manufacture of the drives in your system, you can run diagnostics on them. just about every manufacturer has utilities that will safely (w/o hurting your data) scan the drives for physical defects that you can download from their websites. be careful to be sure to choose the safe diagnostic method, though. (the unsafe methods will usually flash a warning for you that you that all data will be lost)
also, you said the message happens after the POST, and before windows. if you post the exact message you get, that will help. also, post what RAID controller you have (onboard?: what motherboard?, offboard? what controller?) as the message could be coming from it. sometimes even windows will give you the bluescreen with a stop code and a failure to read message.
hope some of this helps. and g/l!

Ok finally back online(i'm having computer issues today) my wireless wouldn't connect. Ok back to the gaming computer. I disconected one of the HD from the motherboard(seems to be the bad one). I plugged in the other one into the spot(sata 4 or sata 1 either one seems to work) that the bad one was in. I turn on the compter and files start loading from my recovery disc. Now when it's done and gets to the part to press enter to load Windows it's like my keyboard is dead. I can't get it to do anything. The computer recognizies the HD but if it doesn't recognize the key board at this point it wont load windows. I tried unplugging the key board and plugging it back in but it still didn't work. Any ideas?

Re: Need IT Help
Sounds to me like the HDD is broken.
And in the case of a RAID0 stripe, the failure of one disc means all data is lost.
The Mean Time Between Failures for HDDs is roughly 2 years. So your 5 year stint on a HDD is pretty good. I hope you made backups of your important stuff!
New HDDs are freakin cheap these days fortunately. So a repair is easy...but recovering any data is another matter.
Next time you use a RAID0 stripe for your OS/programs, keep a thrid nice safe disk for documents/etc... Also, I like to give my functioning systems new HDDs every 1 to 2.5 years, and I have a habit of backing up documents on optical disks like DVDs...
Sorry for your loss. Good luck!

Well thanks anyway everyone. Laggy a upgrade means a whole new computer to my wife. With this one being so old it would be just dumb to upgrade it since I can buy a new one for less than the total over haul to this one. Just a new processor and up to date video card/cards would be almost as much and now we are talking at least one hard drive too. Looks like Brink will be down for a while. Everyone will have to get there easy kill points elsewhere till I get a new gaming computer.
