In all likely hood you would not be able to tell the difference between the two in a blind taste test unless you are some super hearing audio freak. And if thats the case you wouldnt have settled for so long, you would have already spent 4 thousand dollars on your PC sound system.

You are correct, for sure. The improvement from my current situation and the $80 card, however, should be noticeable though, right?

I have yet to buy an xfi or extra audio card. My litle add on supremefxII that came with the mobo does the job just fine.

You should hear a difference between onboard and the XFI, less of a difference if your using the audigy card, but yes the sound quality will be better. How noticeable is another story, and largely depends on your ear and the source of the sounds.

Take 2142 for instance, there is a special extra higher sound setting labeled "X-FI" Not sure if its in BF2, nor exactly what it does, but I sure couldnt select that option before I got the card :6

Many folks are perfectly satisfied with on-board or a cheaper solution, but if you arent broke its not a bad investment for your system.

I got it undercontrol.
Maybe one day with the xfi500gtmc2=mchammer edition comes out i will take the plunge.

After all the issues I had getting the x-fi to work properly in the first place I can't bring myself to grab the new drivers.

Yeah i got a xfi platinum pro. Was having this weird issue where someone would be talking in Vent and sound fine, then the next time they talked it would go slow mo. And while they were talkign someone else would talk and it would sound normal. It was really weird. Once i get my 680i -> 780i upgrade MB back I will have to download these.

Well all is well with the "no issue" part. When i turned on my mic, it hardly picks up any noise. I have to almost yell into it. i went in and turned it all the way up but on the sound level, it seems weak. Ill have to try it out in game to see if people have a hard time hearing me or not to truly find out if that is the case. As for the 8800GTS 512MB video card, what a damn monster. Downloading 3dmark now to run some numbers for everyone.
