    Sudden performance drop

Well, I've tried almost everything I can think of. Tweaked Xp, tuned XP.... I've messed with the Virtual memory, pushed my GPU over-clocking even harder, scanned and found no viruses... Messed with in game settings.... Un-installed/reinstalled drivers.. Used driver cleaner, Installed the newest DirectX. Man... :5 Anything and everything that I could think of, I've done. I am at a loss of what to do with my situation. I don't want to throw in the XP disk, because I fear that is not my problem this time. I can't seem to find out why my sudden drop in performance in BF2 has happened. Here's my best description of the problem's I am having

Just as of late..... I have been playing Bf2 for a long time and noticed the other day things were not looking so smooth in game... Not like they used to look. I think maybe I've lost a few FPS... So i started to watch my fps in game by usingi the command council (renderer.drawfps [1]) and things seem to be jumping everywhere. Numbers as low as 25FPS and as high as 110FPS. On average it's was around the 50-80 mark. But, when things get demanding in game, I've noticed huge drops in performance.... This has never happened to me before. Like I said above, If it involves anything in windows, I've more then likely tried it, with no performance increase or stability. So I continued to read on about possible performance problems in BF2 and in general. I ran into something that scared the living piss out of me. The BIOS... I have never messed with it before and never really want to, but I don't want to continue chopping around when things go, "boom" in BF2

I have come to thinking that maybe my BIOS has fucked up. I am still on the same version that came with my comp... My comp manufacturer has linked about 15 updated bio's downloads but I haven't even considered messing with it yet due to horror stories I've read and heard. I have received or seen, no error, or error log that tells me that their is a problem in my BIOS. I don't even know how or where to begin looking for such things. Is their some kind of test I can run that will spit out "gibberish" about my computer? Does anyone here know how to read the "computer's gibberish if I posted it?

Here are my system spec's.... I should have no problem running a game like BF2, but I do

I would not go into the bios. It is very hard to imagine that with no hardware changes that your bios is suddenly causing slowdowns in bf2, and at most you will get a best a marginal percent improvement.

does this happen after a period of play or is the problem consistent from the moment you launch the game?
    Defragged? Thoroughly?

What is your sound settings in BF? try turning sound down?

Did you bump up something like dynamic lighting or maybe antialiasing?

    Re: Sudden performance drop

It happens almost right off the bat, as soon as I hit a zone where alot of action is going on. I start to see a huge drop in FPS. Defragged 2x, sound options have been messed with..... I forgot to mention, no matter what settings I put in the game, I still have the problem... I could be running 800x600 and all settings on LOW.... I still get the problem.

do you play anything else? Notice anything similar happening?

    How about excessive harddrive noise?

Hahahaha! Comcast does suck up here in Minneapolis, But it's not a connection related problem. My ping is right where it should be and I'm not getting the ping related latency... It's defiantly my comp

-I play Cod4 from time to time, but that was choppy for me to begin with.
-My hard drive is not making any unusual noises. No excessive clicking or squeaking.

Yea reload might be the ticket. Pc performs at its best on a fresh OS load. Some good advice if you want to limit reload in the future is duel boot same OS and just game one and all other programs on the other boot. Keeps gaming OS fresh.

HAHAHAHAH! Yea, I was afraid It might come to the disk..... Heres a question.... If i do reformat, Would there be a noticeable improvement with applications if I partition my OS on a seperate partition then everything else? I've heard this can boost performance... anyone currently have this config for there hard drive?
