Nope.  The benefit from SLI would be a few more FPS (litrerally 10 to 20) at high resolutions (greater than 1280x1024 and then not even a big deal until 1920x1050 or 1600x1200).  The 3870X2 is a badass GPU and outperforms the entire Nvidia lineup.  Even though the 3870X2 is essentially Crossfire on a single slot, they have engineered it well and it performs VERY well at ALL resolutions.  Truth be told,a single 8800 GT or better should outperform SLI 9600s.  There is a bit of a myth about SLI and most people dont know it because benchmarking systems like #dMark reward you for SLI even when many games/systems do not.  Although once we get some new DX10 games we should see SLI/Crossfire systems take a leap in their performance over single GPU solutions.

But right now you would do well enough with one or better with a single 8800 GT or GTS.  I am assuming by the time every game is DX10 and uses it's nice deep frame buffer to capacity the 8800s and even 9xxx cards will be long gone.

The 9600 is an awesome solution for a budget, but if you have the money for two of them, just get a more powerful 8800 model instead.  Or a single 9600 and save your money for pizza.

EDIT: I have been away for awhile and I just now realized the the 9800 is "winning" so my statement the the 3870X2 was winning was incorrect.

But still, buy one 9600 GT or one 8800 GT or GTS. But not two 9600's. Unless youu have a really hi resolution monitor.

everyone has different scores so the 9800 does not beat the 3870x2

    They are neck and neck.
Why dont they ever show source game benchmarks.....
