its not that the 8800s are still selling well, which I would expect they are, its just taking its place in the line: 9600gt - 9800gt - 9800gts - 9800gtx ....
Given that the 9600 is holding its own against the 8800gt and the 8800gt isnt too far off a GTX - gives you some idea of the performance you can expect

The first time I saw this I thought "Hey, I've got one of those in my closet!" It's an ATI Radon 9600 Pro which was a decent card ... five years ago. Maybe we'll wrap all the way around to a TNT2.
