I have one that we bought at work. It's the full case and designed for a 478 socket. I'm nervous about their current support and sales however. They seem to be under some transition. That being said, I had to hot wire my motherboard for it (wasn't a hugh deal) since it has to turn the compressor on first to cool it to about -15 celcius before it gives start command to motherboard. Most motherboards don't require that though. It's alot of cabling and wiring to do.

I does exactly what it's says it's suppose to. It uses a fair amount of power to do it though. I don't know anything more stable to keep it as cool.

I'm not sure if I'd go with the full case like I did. They have the ones that mount below your current case and you cut a hole through the bottom of your case to bring up the arm/heatsink. The full case is kind of cramped. In addition. you have to use small 40mm fans because of where the powersupply goes.

Running a P4 2.4 overclocked to 3.0 Ghz at full load brings it from idle of -25 celcius to about -14 celcius after an hour or so.

Oh, it's frigging heavy. The case fully loaded with drives... came to 73 pounds.

As far as my rig goes, it has been crashing like crazy and I have traced the problems back to my OCZ reaper dd3 memory. I spoke with OCZ and they openly admitted that they have been having issues with the Reaper DDR memory AND they told me that the heatsinks do not do crap (yes, THEY told me this).

I RMAed my memory and spoke with the supervisor and they are giving me a free upgrade to their more stable(more expensive) Platinum DDR3 memory....so hopefully I should have that in sometime next week.

I figured this would be useful information for anyone interested in DDR3 memory.

The headache of building my own system continues

First off, OCZ tech support is one of the worst customer support centers I have ever dealt with. The memory they sent me was bad AGAIN. Now I am finding out that the only memory that is very stable with my 790i motherboard is the OCZ flex:

Luckily, I did some digging and contacted their corporate office. I spoke with the head of customer service support telling him how disgusted I am with their products and support. I also told him that I am a prominent member of a huge gaming community that likes to upgrade their computers and I would tell the tale of how shitty their company is. He called me back within 30 minutes and I am happy to say they are overnighting me the FLEX ram. This is their last chance to make things right for me, or else I will NEVER buy from OCZ again.

This has become a costly situation for me. My 650 watt power supply can't even cut this kind of power, so today I ordered:

Zalman has a great reputation for service, so I figure their Power supply will be top notch AND its modular like the toughpowers!

With all this being said, I am amazed at how bigdog can build a system with minimal problems. But hey, aside from sppending close to 2500 dollars, I am at least learning :P

I will update this thread and include pics once I get this DAMN project done!

Honestly, its my fault for buying all this new high end shit that hasn't had a lot of market time. If you are buying components that have been around a while, then you will be fine. My whole purpose of purchasing newer components was to futureproof my system for at least 2 years. Everything I have has lifetime warranties, but it sucks when things don't work and you have to wait

mmm, we cool our machines with glycol.

So I am running windows XP. If I decide to go vista, is this what I need to get? Whats the difference between OEM and retail?
