Surround sound on a PC
I wrote this in a different thread the other day but it sort of got buried in the main topic.
I have surround sound in my living room for watching movies. And I have surround capabilities in my computer room, but only two speakers. I could easily afford to buy a new speaker setup, but I'm not sure how I could set it up practically. I don't just want two little towers with speakers floating in the middle of the room behind my desk... I use that room for other stuff too. In the living room surround sound is easy to lay out... you just put the rear channels around the couch and they are inconspicuous since they sit right next to it. But to have speakers right behind my chair with nothing else next to them... I think it would look weird and I'd probably run into them eventually and knock them over.
How does everybody do this?

Re: Surround sound on a PC
It's a pretty big room and I want a versatile setup that would work in any room (I won't live in this house forever). I guess I could do that though if I had to. They'd be pretty far from my head though.

Re: Surround sound on a PC
I have no idea why they call them virtual since it has 6 speakers built into them but here are some surround sound headsets

ZM-RS6F
ZM-RS6F USB (if you don't have a sound card)

Yeh but generally distance is somewhat important which is why the speakers in your diagram are on a circular mounting pattern. Mine would look like a VERY long ellipse. I guess if the software or hardware allows tweaking the levels of each satellite I could compensate for it.

Re: Surround sound on a PC
Do you guys ever worry about microphone picking up speaker sounds and making you sound like shit in game? Currently I just have two big floor speakers and hang a mic around my neck. But I always wonder if I'm feeding back audio when I speak (I know sometimes I hear others who have a really bad loop when they are speaking).
But I absolutely hate headsets... they make my ears too hot.
