I saw the previews of these a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure it's worth the price/performance premium to pick up these. If you're hell bent to be the first one to load into a map... sure... I'd rather get 2 lesser 7200 rpm SATA drives and put them into RAID 0 than buy 1 Velociraptor... Actually, I'd rather get a small-ish SSD and put the OS on it, and use supplemental SATA drives for applications and data.

dude, if you want fast why dont ya just go with a 15,000rmp drive ? all ya have to do is buy a SCSI card to run them in a regular PC.

I don't like SCSI, to expensive and the interface is always changing. I made that mistake once and don't think I'll go back to it. The older interfaces are rarely backward compatable so in a couple years if I wanted newer drives it would mean a new scsi card. Then my older drives wouldn't work with it. Nah. I'll pass. I'm content with the fastest available SATA

    I laugh.
I like my raptor, but I dont think I would buy another one.

If I was going to spend 300-600 dollars on harddrives I would be buying a couple large drives like 750mb or so and a 16mb Solid State Drive for my OS

I've already got a couple large drives. My goal is the fast access times of the Velociraptors. I've already got 1.3TB of data storage on my system, so if I add 600GB I'll be at 1.9TB... I think that should be okay. Only my applications and games will be in the 600GB

Depends on the size you're looking at. They're also 100x as fast. If you're going for pure speed, it's the way to go. In laptops it's an easy way to increase battery life.

they are fucking expensive, but your talking about spending 600 dollars already, you could get a 32g ssd and house your OS and your most favoritest game and have speed out the ass.
