MY PC scores around 9000 in 3d06. This is enough horse power to play pretty much everything I have stuck in my computer at 1920x1200 with 4AA and 16AF enabled.

One thing to check - if your forcing AA and AF through the NTUNE tool that will slow down your benchmark scores - AA and AF should be set to 'disabled' or 'off' in the nvidia control panel.

Need some more here Mury - why? Does it just improve benchmark to turn AA and AF off, or is it better for game play? BTW - talk to me like an idiot about this stuff because I am, I just want to get the most out of my system (and learn something along the way)

    Re: Chew on This!!

AA and AF are quality level things, Search for AntiAliasing and ansitropic in google if you want to know what they do specifically, but simply put, Ansiotopic filtering smooths graphics out into the distance and Antialiasing makes edges of things smoother are sharper.

AF (Ansiotopic Filtering) is nearly free in terms of GPU power these days, you can easily set it to 8 or 16 with more higher end cards without dropping more than a small % of frames, Antialiasing on the other hand requires that your video card analyze every single pixel several times to shade it just so to create a smooth edge, each level of AA you enable is another analization of each pixel, IE 4xaa means each pixel is getting calculated at least 5 times before its sent out to your monitor (1280x1024 monitor has 1.3 million pixels)

Basically you want to play games with as high a resolution as possible, with as many levels of AA and AF enabled as your video card will allow and still generate a consistent ~60+ FPS, but if you care about benchmarks such as 3d06 you want them all disabled.

Smoke, your rig should be 10k+ easily on the 3dmarks. I dunno what the issue is.

I have the evga 8800GT 512MB card. I have used two different processors. One is a dual core E6850 @ 3.6GHz and when I OC my graphics card i get the score that you can see on my link...I think its 13000+. The other processor I used is the Q6600 and when it was OC at 2.9GHz I was scoring at 12000+. At stock fsb, The quad would outperform the dual. Quads score higher than dual cores, bottom line, so dont think twice about the processor you got, it was the correct decision based on the price drop (I really hope you didnt spend $500 on it).

9000 marks aint bad but you arent getting the full potential because of something and i cannot tell you what it is. would you notice a difference in css or tf2 or even cod4...I dont think so. Crisis, yea probably so.

Even if you don't do anything to it now, just keep in mind that if you ever need to squeeze that hardware for more performance then you can do it when the time comes. I am talking OC on the CPU, RAM, GPU and its RAM. You have the cooler for it so heat wont be an issue. OC on intel is easy, granted your mobo is decent. It is a bit easier than doing an AMD rig i believe due to the options in the BIOS on unlinking your ram and cpu speeds.

I dont know why why why why why people still recomend the 8800 gt or gts or gtmachV.

My brother in law just recently bought the 9600gt and could not be any more pleased.

The 9600gt is like what $175?

    The stock bechmark with a q6600/9600gt/xfx 680i mobo was 11900 3dmark06.

Even though the prices are coming down on the 8800's ITS NOT WORTH IT!

The new cheap stuff is out get it!

Big really what were you thinking?

Another note you will be able to tell the difference in game for damn sure.

    you play css and tf2?

    I am sure you want 8xAA 16xAF.
You crank those on and the frames drop a lot.

The 9600gt can handle the AA and AF better than the 8800gt.

bang for the buck, you are right Jason, 9600 GT is a better buy. but in total performance the 8800GT beats it, including FSAA and AF.
Even better, the 8800GTS 512 can be had for $169 which beats both in performance handily. The cheapest 9600GT I found was $119. Is it worth $50 more? To me, yes. Maybe not to others though.

    Re: Chew on This!!

    kk,

So manse the quad core should be doing better? Big thought so to but then did some looking on Tom's (somthing) and others sights and it was pretty normal.

Next, i need to buy a new graphics card? This will improve my scores? However at this point i wont buy till i play it and feel a need. I may be having a 8800gt card to donate to someone. Maybe not.

Next ill address some of these things when i get it and ask for help setting these settings.

Furthermore doesnt overclocking makey windows unstable. If the shit crashes then your corrupting shit.

    1. I refuse to reinstall windows monthly.
    2. I refuse to corrupt my computer due to the failing and crashing at times cause by OC
    3. Why not just by the bad ass parts that do that shit on default. Out of the box bam you ready to rock and roll?

Big coinvenced me that overclocking was somthing that people who are in a desperate situation and have no other finanicial options do to improve their ability to play. Not somthing people with new comps with good shit do because its dangerous to the life of the computer?
Analogy? Dont take your honda accord your wife needs for work and make it into a rice burner cause you wanna go fast. Its pointless and rediculous. If you can just go buy a VET. How it was explained to me on his thoughts about OC ers. I may have misunderstood, i dont like to speak for anyone so i wont. This was my understanding.

    Thoughts?

Smoke, you will be thrilled to death once you have the system in your hands and play some games on it.

If I were you I'd turn back now before you get suckered in to all this overclocking e-penis nonsense and before you know it these guys have convinced you to drop another $5k on bullshit you don't need.

    Re: Chew on This!!

    on the other hand, Smoke,
Some of us have a computer with the latest hardware and do not use the computer for anything that matters. Gaming only. An overclocker in that situation may simply want to squeeze every drop of performance out of his rig. Also, performance tuning can as fun a hobby in computers as it is in cars.
