Does th cpu play that big of a difference on my 3dmark score

I was wondering if the CPU makes that big of a difference on your 3D Mark score.

I recently purchased a 9800gtx and upgraded from an 8600gts xxx, I thought I would see a higher score (11366), granted it is quite a jump in score from the 8600 (6028). What is the CPU percentage that makes the score higher, and would it make a big differnce if I overclocked it.
My friend has an 8800gt(ssc) model and his score was in the low 12 thousand range the difernce in his system is he has the e6850.
Soy, I was wondering what you thought of this or anyone else who would like to chime in.

    System specs

    Cpu cooler: Zalman 9500 nt
    Ram: OCZ 4 gigs of pc2 8500 (ddr2-1066)
    Video card: EVGA 9800gtx @ 675mhz

    Keyboard: Logitech G15
    Joystick: Saitek evo force

On a side note I also purchased a Q9450 yesterday but have not installed it yet.

Re: Does the CPU play that big of a role on 3Dmark

There are two cpu specific tests, where the cpu actually does some graphics processing. But it doesn't affect it all that much since most cpu's get around .5-2 FPS. and i think your score is just a total of how many frames your system processed.

    So not really.

On smoken sherrifs rig I just completed, I overclocked his QX6700 from 2.66 to 4.0Ghz. Took the CPU score from a 4200 to a 5500 or so. the CPU SCORE.

but that only translated to about a 500pt increase in the overall 3dMark.

You wouldn't see an in game difference though. Which to me, ingame FPS is more important than 3dmark.

I kinda thought I would get a much higher score with that 9800gtx, dont know if I should take it back and get an 8800gt or wait for the step up on the 9900gtx in a couple of months.

Also do you think my score would go higher when I install the Q9450 that I just bought.

    UPDATE:
Well I added the Q9450 and my score jumped up to (13072) that's a gain of 1706 by adding the quad core. My original score was (11366), so I'm going to do a little more tweaking with overclocking this system, and see what kind of numbers I get.

    I will keep you posted.

Re: The Cpu has made a difference on my 3dmark score

Well here is another "Update" on my rig, I have now overclocked my cpu to 3.2ghz from 2.66ghz and increased my core clock on the 9800gtx to 700mhz from 675mhz, and my new 3DMARK06 score is "14422" quite an increase from stock, that is jump of 1350 points. I kinda think I might be able to reach 15000 maybe a little more tweaking to be done. I will keep you posted
