That is just flat out wrong and ignorant. Non-MS OSes are everywhere. On your phone and hosting this website, imbedded in your router and the routers that bring web traffic to you, and doing all kinds of things you dont think about, but just happen and work without error. They are on your video game console and they are authinticating your connection to your ISP. They are at work on desktops in many large offices an corperations. They are growing in use as home OSes as well. The only major area that they do not penetrate is gaming, but even there, they host all of your favorite servers.
Never think that there is one choice in OSes. Every OS has strengths and weaknesses. Windows is not always the best choice for a given PC's tasks.

Like I said Microsoft will win.

I am sure that microsoft has software running on about 65% of the worlds pc's.
    65% of 100%
    More than half?
    Sounds like a winner.

We have about 25,000 systems in my company. 90%+ are running Microsoft OSes; HOWEVER all mission critical data resides on UNIX platform systems or the Mainframe.

Yall trying running games within Wine or Cedega? I know source based games play just fine within Wine with some extra overhead (maybe not with the newer versions of Wine). Doing some research before kicking my new box with vista, it appears that COD4's punk buster does not work under wine.

Also it appears that Valve is porting the source engine to linux:

Also jason_jinx, I don't think anyone here is going argue about Microsoft's current market share on the desktop.

    Re: Alternate OS's

I have managed to get a few games to work with WINE and other things. But not all games will work with those things. And since I like to have a dedicated gaming box, I just use windows for that. XP until a DX10 only title catches my interest.

BTW, Jason, you should know, I am no MS hater.
In fact, I had to go to training for work because we are about to roll out Exchange server 2007. If you ever want to see a mail/collaboration package done right, Exchange Server 2007 has the shit together. I have never seen any software that is more bullet-proof straight out of the box.

    Re: Alternate OS's

I have TF2 working under Wine on my Linux box at work, but it's not as smooth as I would have liked. However I don't blame wine for this, I blame the work-oriented Linux distribution that my job makes me use.

    Re: Alternate OS's

I was a member of a Linux user group a while back and I got a bunch of free packaged Linux stuff... needless to say, I liked it, but it just wasnt practical. I preferred something a bit more practical. Plus, the Linux drivers were a bitch.
