Well as I was checking this thread fireftp was updated for 3. fireuploaded should be close behind.

4.Is it worth the hassle when I haven't had any problems with IE?

Not trying to start a IE vs. Firefox flame war,I just don't know anything about Firefox and haven't had any problems with IE,but I'm always looking to improve.I seem to have a knac for keeping my finger on the pulse of what happened 5 years ago.
Since you can run them together then it doesn't hurt to check it out. FF is faster at loading pages and has tons of extensions for different things. These are addons to enhance your browser.

The only thing that doesn't work for me is the Windows updates.

Same with ubuntu. 8.04 came with 3.0 beta. I like it so far.

I've tried Firefox and have'nt noticed any real difference in browsing the internet. Am I missing something?

The reason I ask is that Dex's question about what would be the difference for the casual user was not adressed by braddoc.

    Just curious.

I think it's a matter of preference really. I use firefox because I like the layout and some of the pulgins/extensions etc are useful. It's probably best to have both IE and FF though. Some sites are designed with only FF in mind and others are designed for only IE. What I mean by that is that when you create a website you can code it to work with all major browsers or just the one you care about.

If not coded correctly you may view a website on IE that looks all jumbled up if the author only coded to work with FireFox.

Some sites require to have IE in order for certain functions on their site to work properly (microsoft's site for obvious reasons.) Most major sites such as you search engines are designed with all major browsers in mind so you really wouldn't notice a major difference.

I hope I didn't make it more confusing lol

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Re: firefox 3 released! help set a new world record!

I have been a longtime Firefox user and I love it. I like the extensions and I like the way it handles tabs better than IE7. As for extensions, I use FireFTP and IEtab all the time. IEtab is great if you go to a page that uses MS IE extensions, it renders the page using the IE built into windows. The lack of ActiveX makes it a more secure browser, but do not think it is bulletproof. As far as an IE vs Firefox flame war, that would be pretty stupid. You really need a life if you want to argue over something like that. To me it is just personal preference. One should try FireFox, IE7, and Opera before settling. Dont forget that IE stays on the PC even if you install an alternate browser. On my Linux machines, I prefer Opera to Firefox. It seems to handle IE optimized pages better and I like the widgets quite a bit.
Just stay far away from Safari for Windows lol

I think this argument is much like the Ford/Chevy argument. Both have a few features that make them better or different, but all in all it's still just a truck.

    I agree with you civilwars,

I remember when windows and IE was full of vulnerabilities. The world is driven they say by Microsoft products. The favorite target of hackers.
Firefox was recommended to me some years ago now because it was considered safer to surf the net with it. I do not believe that to be as true as it was then.
Like you say it is down to preference. Looking at the review at computer world it seems buggy at the moment and the auto update function apparently does not work. I personally will be steering clear of this one......At least for a while.

    Well said.
Or Mac/PC, or Gibson/Fender, or Original Series/Next gen, or any other number of arguments about competing products that, for the most part, do their job well, just in different ways.

    That said... Kirk FTW.

I am back on FF3. FTP and Uploader both work, so Civil is a happy man.

    Auto update works for me.

No ActiveX and speed are my biggest reasons for staying with FF. The plugins are a bonus. I originally went with FF because they stuck to the W3C standards. All in all it really does come down to preference and what you use it for.
