I've tried Firefox and have'nt noticed any real difference in browsing the internet. Am I missing something?
The reason I ask is that Dex's question about what would be the difference for the casual user was not adressed by braddoc.
Just curious.

Some sites require to have IE in order for certain functions on their site to work properly (microsoft's site for obvious reasons.) Most major sites such as you search engines are designed with all major browsers in mind so you really wouldn't notice a major difference.
I hope I didn't make it more confusing lol
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

I have been a longtime Firefox user and I love it. I like the extensions and I like the way it handles tabs better than IE7. As for extensions, I use FireFTP and IEtab all the time. IEtab is great if you go to a page that uses MS IE extensions, it renders the page using the IE built into windows. The lack of ActiveX makes it a more secure browser, but do not think it is bulletproof. As far as an IE vs Firefox flame war, that would be pretty stupid. You really need a life if you want to argue over something like that. To me it is just personal preference. One should try FireFox, IE7, and Opera before settling. Dont forget that IE stays on the PC even if you install an alternate browser. On my Linux machines, I prefer Opera to Firefox. It seems to handle IE optimized pages better and I like the widgets quite a bit.
Just stay far away from Safari for Windows lolSleep, eat, conquer, meditate, repeat.

I agree with you civilwars,
I remember when windows and IE was full of vulnerabilities. The world is driven they say by Microsoft products. The favorite target of hackers.
Firefox was recommended to me some years ago now because it was considered safer to surf the net with it. I do not believe that to be as true as it was then.
Like you say it is down to preference. Looking at the review at computer world it seems buggy at the moment and the auto update function apparently does not work. I personally will be steering clear of this one......At least for a while.

Auto update works for me.
No ActiveX and speed are my biggest reasons for staying with FF. The plugins are a bonus. I originally went with FF because they stuck to the W3C standards. All in all it really does come down to preference and what you use it for.
