I choose Firefox mainly for security reasons. You see far less 'drive by' malware for Firefox than you do with IE. This all ties back to Active X. Microsoft IS addressing the gaping hole that is Active X. IE 8 (on Vista only) will allow Active X Controls to run in user space, instead of now running at the dangerous system level. This will prevent it from modifying files that it does not have access to.
I also chose Firefox because it plays nicely with others. Firefox doesn't behave like Microsoft and do things their own way just because they can. It generally follows the W3C standards. Firefox 3 now passes the ACID 2 test for compliance. One of the goals of 3.1 will be to get the Gecko rendering engine (what converts the HTML to what you see on your screen) to pass the fairly new ACID 3 test. So far, Safari and Opera are the only two browsers that pass this test.

btw in other great news firefox 3 already has it first security issue (joyous isn't it?) apparently its a major browser exploit which the company that found it did not wish to mention (though they said it involved clicking a link to a site so *shrugs*) anyways supposedly its being worked on though for the next update. Once i find the link i'll post it
