Computer Hilarity
Good god my wife's been picking me for 3 days now for this one.
Okay, so I decide to take the government issued reach-around tax rebate and upgrade my machine. I ordered myself a new CPU, mobo and memory, slap 'em into my case and we're good to go. Sweet.
Of course, I can't leave well enough alone, and fuck Newegg for having that tempting 90-Days-Same-As-Cash payment option, so I decide to order the XFX GeForce 9800GTX 512MB (with Call of Duty 4 bundled for free, sweet!) My shiny new video card arrives on Thursday, and problem #1 appears: the fucking card is so big it sits on top of 4 out of 6 of my freakin' SATA ports, covering them completely! So, I plug my two drives into the other two ports, plug in the 2nd 6-pin power cable and fire the machine up... with no results.
I knew damn well what was wrong, so I unplug one g'damn hard drive and she boots up (without my overclock settings). *facepalm* So, I'm one hard drive over my power supply's 520W limit. So, I head to Fry's Friday night and pick up a Thermaltake 700W PSU (and two 90° SATA cables) and plug all that in. The entire time, Mrs. Deus is laughing at me saying "so, because you got a new video card, you needed a new power supply... well, next, you're gonna plug that in and decide you need a new case too... and a new monitor... and..." I was ready to punt her. :P (Thank god she has a sense of humor about my tech-buying habit.)
So, after all that, my system went from this... to this, a 42% boost in power. And my wallet's about a grand lighter. :P
Anyways, anybody wanna buy a Corsair CMPSU-520HX 520W Modular Power Supply? Absolutely nothing wrong with it, and I have all the cables and whatnot. $65 OBO.

When I installed my 8800GT, I knew I was cutting it short on my power supply. I can only use one hard drive, since I have a mini-mobo, but the video card and one hard drive that I have take up almost all my power. I'd probably buy the power supply from you for future upgrades, but I don't plan on upgrading for a while.
*Scratch that, the page doesn't tell you the dimensions* My 8800GT barely fits into my case, I had to move my hard drive over one slot in my cooler master (easiest move ever!) in order to make room for it. And if you haven't seen a 9800, those beasts are BIG. I believe I saw the shortest version of a 9800 being 11 inches."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."
