Laptop Upgrade Unfeasible?
I noticed the motherboard for my laptop was compatible with up to mobile athlon x64 3000+, so I thought why not grab one for 40 bucks, plop it in and boom, improvement. I was fully aware of higher heat emmision and power requirements, but I didn't expect this.

It looks like you are linking to the picture based on your user at imageshack. The is probably a universal link somewhere... See in the text how it says: "my-php"? Well that part should reflect the user account and a bunch of numbers and stuff. But it looks like it is your (the account owners) personal link. I have never used imageshack, but there is probably a public link somewhere...

Ok we're good now
So here its sitting ~idle, after about 4min the system shuts off peaking at about 118c LOL. Looks like this isn't going to work, reverted back the the sempron 3400+.I'm going to see if i can paste a large chunk of metal inside, otherwise, screw it waste of $40.

lol yeah, which is why I didn't thank anything of it idling @ 72C before the upgrade. I figured how much hotter can it possibly get? Well I certainly got a shout back. The thing wont even stop heating up lol, its like the cpu eminates more heat than the heatsink can dissipate running completely idle. Jesus.

here is the real issue:
Your older chip ran cooler.
Most Notebooks are engineered to very specific specifications. They are not designed to be upgraded
Your notebook was built for your original CPU
When you upgraded the CPU, you are overloading the heat sink.
Sleep, eat, conquer, meditate, repeat.

Also, someone had asked if you were using a mobile versus desktop proc. I know the sempron is not a mobile, but they are generally low powered so they dont generate as much heat on average as their big brothers. But if you stuck a regular old desktop CPU in there, it can get REALLY hot fast.
If you want to upgrade your laptop's CPU, look at the options that were available for it, get the fastest one they listed, and make sure it is a Turion class CPU.
