Now, I wouldnt like to say Im an expert or anything, I still have much to learn, but Iv been building computers for about 4 years now. This last one (my dads) is my sixth computer built for personal use.

In it there is an Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe mobo, AMD Athlon 64 6000+ processor, Nvidia 8800 GT and 2 gb of ram (in 2 sticks)

I have dissassembled, reassembled this thing to the max. Replaced the mobo and got a new one, replaced the processor, checked all the cables, checked the video card, cleared the CMOS.

Now the problem is, is that I never get a signal on the monitor, whats weird is, is that when I hook it all up to my dads old motherboard, it works fine! Now however I get no signal at all and Im completely stumped, the only peice I havent bothered checking is the RAM mainly because I dont get the 3 beeps when I boot it up indicating a memory problem...

Either A) The motherboard is bad or B) You did plug in power to the video card, right?

OK, I thought about this a little more. I am assuming everything is the same EXACT except the motherboard? And I mean everything, PSU, HDD, cables, case... etc.

Pull the new one out and make sure there are no standoffs that aren't being used screwed into the case/tray the motherboard mounts on. They could be touching something and shorting it. If there are no extra standoffs, more then likely it's a bad motherboard.

I don't know if you've tried this or not but pull everything off the motherboard except the CPU, RAM, and video card and see what happens. Also, look over the entire board and make sure all power plugs are in.

Well, first off it cant be the motherboard, or I just happened to get 2 faulty motherboards of the same model. No extra standoffs either. The graphics card doesnt require an extra pci power plug either

Ill try what you suggested though Cybs, havent tried that before, Ill post the results when Im done testing.

Extra note, I have the exact same motherboard and Im doing just great.

I've not seen an 8800 GT that didn't require additional power.

I am certain that 8800 GT has a 6 pin PCI power input on it; it cant get enough power from the PCI express slot it has to use external power.

That might be the problem...

And I am currently using the M2N32 SLI as well and love it.. great mobo...

Yeah.. that one can certainly go with no external power! But I think some of them do... (I have seen one up close and personal).

You cannot use either PCI-E slot I think, you must put the card in the master PCI-E slot which will be the one closes to the CPU. If you run SLI then you load them both, but with one card you must put it in the first slot.

Or at least I think thats the case! I know for sure my A8N SLI premium worked that way, and I thought the M2N series (and all SLI mobos) worked the same way.

Yeap, had it in that slot already, Iv never used SLI on video cards before but its how I always put them together, I myself am using the 8800 GTS

Just because you dont get the three beeps does not mean the memory is OK..but it is not an issue at this point.

So it starts fine.. does the drive/optical/floppy start working and go through its seek or does the box just power up and sit there?

It would be hard to imagine you got the same type of broken mobo twice in a row, but it has happened before...

Did you try running it with another power supply? COuld be the one you are using is just a touch too weak. When I first got my 8800 GTS and plugged it in I had similar symptoms until I got a new PS then it worked fine. But the 8600 does not draw too much power...

Try reseating the RAM and everything else? (You probably did that...)

Do you have another video card you could test with?

Looks like a string of troubleshooting to do here... odd problem.
