    Disappearing drive?

    Recently i've been having a problem where my computer refuses to recognize my dvd drive. It literally disappears as far as the computer is concerned, not scanning for hardware changes or eject commands will get it recognize it. This is generally fixed, temporarily by a system reboot.


    What might be causing this?

    I had this happen twice for two different reasons.

    Once it was because my PS was weak, and getting weaker as it aged. There were other symptoms though, other peripherals would just lose power and cease functioning besides the HDD, but the HDD was first to show it.

    The other time, the drive utterly failed shortly after it started doing that.


    Maybe a losse SATA/IDE/Power cable too?
