08-09-08, 04:06 PM #1Im upgrading and i need advice.
So im going to upgrade my Video card for my Rebuild computer. It has a BIOSTAR nVidia GeForce 7300GS 512mb 64-Bit 550-GPU 500-Memory Copper Heatsink Fan. And im going to upgrade to this card that is better than the one on our new Dell XPS's 8800GT 512mb card. Heres a link to what im going to buy. I was helping my friend look for a video card for him to upgrade to and i stumbled across this one. I LOVE this video card.

I love the speed on it and how much it will cost, only 39.99+S/h. The card is a 8400GS 512mb. The speed is good, Core clock 567MHz, Memory Clock 1000MHz. The memory clock is bigger than the 8800GT in our new Dell XPS but the Core clock is the same. So tell me, will 40 bucks+ be a good thing or should I go for a better model? Reply back and tell me what you think.

It's doubtful you will be able to play any new games on that thing, it is a bit dated. I'd be willing to bet you will immediately want to upgrade again if you do purchase that. But it really depends on what games you play.
If you are a bit short on cash but you want a decent card, ATI has some nice mid-range setups for a decent price. Nvidia has some pretty strong cards for around $150. I use one of these myself and I just love it.

Those card Lightinging are too small for what I need. in BF2 the ground its BRIGHT yellow and i cant get above 10 FPS on CoD2. I need a despreat upgrade. And Im going to selltle on this card period. When i sell it ill leave it up to the new owner if they want to upgrade, but what I have init wont please anybody. People have afferd me 200 bucks beacuse of the video card dosent please them.

Well thanks anyways but im looking to sell my comp now and I need a cheap card and many monitors dont have DVI ports and I want a card with DVI VGA and S-video out like the one in it now. And its nice but I can find better for cheaper.

That 8400 GS is in no way better than an 8800GT 512.
It has far fewer streaming processors, reducing it's ability substantially. The 8400 GS is a power saving budget card; good card, but the 8800GT 512 STOMPS it period.
I recommend the ATI 4850 currently. It is dominating the midrange priced video cards.
According to tom's hardware
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/g...score,538.html
the 8400 GS gets 701 3dmarks and the 8800 GT 512 gets over 6000.

Yes im talking about the 7300GS, the 8800GT in our dell XPS is too damn good but the 8600GS that im going to get will be the same power as the 8800GT in our dell but cheaper. I dont have the specs on our 8800GT, all i know is that its a 8800GT 512 MB card that needs a fan. It makes dead bodies extend in CoD4. That were going to fix.

The 8800 GT beats out the 8600  xx hands down.
Check those VGA charts at tom's guide.
EDIT: Meant tom's guide

ok Im going to end this once and for all. I know its the same power as the 8800GT in our dell because we told us to put on a 8600GS or go with a cheaper 8800GT. They also said on the web site that the 8600GS with 512mb of memory would be best for what I would be doing on it. But the one they had for offer had problems with the Direct X. So we went with teh 8800GT. Thats why I want to upgrade to a 8600GS, I was just able to stumble on a cheap modle of it. This ends this arguement.
