Re: Everyone who has Comcast - It's official!
what would a regular user need to do in order to cross that 250 gb threshhold?
Would we ever have to worry?

Internet gaming is without a doubt one of the most bandwidth intensive apps these days. Just run a meter in the background and watch how much upload/download you use to play a game for an hour and do the math.. However for some people who do other things like download videos off itunes or netflix videos stream HD videos that takes A LOT of bandwidth.. 250gb would probably be used in 2 weeks or less by someone who is on the internet an average of 25+ hours a week doing gaming and factoring watching streaming vids..

Comcast is looking down the road.
Now 250gb is almost an obsence limit for normal users.
Wait until all media is delivered through their networks.
At the ridiculous speeds the systems they are designing will be capable of.
The ever expanding growth of data will proceed onward.
And you will want/need more of that data.
Then 250 will seem small.
And they will charge you, oh how they will charge you - mwuahahah!!!
Ok so a little dramatic, but you get the point.
They are investing in the fact that SOMEDAY people will hit that limit.
Plus they now get an excuse to police their bandwidth more.

Personally, I don't see this working. Think about it... how many "free" services get paid based on what advertisements we click on or things we buy. Think Google, Yahoo, Skype, Vonage... etc. are going to go down without a fight?
Lets take for example the TTP site. They (The collective they of people who run the site and servers) make money to help pay for the servers we play on. So suddenly our bandwidth is capped and we as the collective players either don't come to the site as often or demand a lower bandwidth site. Either way, TTP makes less money to pay for the servers and suddenly TTP goes away because it isn't an economical business model anymore.
This is just an example, but one that applies to the internet as a whole. The bright side... WalMart will make a lot more money since we'll be going to stores to buy stuff instead of the internet.
